Many OCD themes can be traced to a core fear around de@th.

Some individuals can also have this fear as their prominent obsession.

Thinking about de@th can bring up so many uncomfortable emotions, so it makes sense that OCD clings to this topic and wants to seek relief and certainty.

Disgust OCD, a type of obsessive-compulsive disorder, is when people feel extreme disgust towards certain things. For example, they might be terrified of germs or dirt, so they wash their hands over and over again. They might also avoid places or people they think are
"dirty."

Sometimes, their fear goes beyond just physical dirt. They might believe that certain colors or clothes are "bad" and avoid them, even though they know it doesn't make sense.

Imagine someone who can't wear clothes they wore to a funeral because they're afraid of “transferring death" onto themselves. Or someone who refuses to wear certain colors for years because they feel those colors are somehow “wrong." These fears can be very strong and can disrupt their daily lives.

Even though these behaviors might seem odd to others, they're actually symptoms of OCD. Many people don't realize this, so they don't get the help they need.

Have you heard of disgust OCD? You are not alone, and evidence-based treatment can teach you how to tolerate feelings of disgust.

Relationship Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (ROCD) is a subtype of OCD characterized by persistent doubts about one’s romantic relationship or partner.

Individuals with ROCD experience intrusive thoughts about love, compatibility, or fidelity, leading to heightened anxiety. This condition triggers compulsive behaviors like seeking reassurance and mentally reviewing interactions. ROCD distorts the perception of normal relationship experiences leading to exaggerated doubt and distress.

Remember, there is no way to be certain in respect to the future and success of a relationship.

There is a difference between panic attacks and panic disorder. A panic attack is characterized by sudden episode of intense fear and anxiety accompanied by physical symptoms such as shortness of breath, nausea, trembling, sense of impending doom, dizziness and rapid heart rate.

Some people may experience just one or two episodes of panic attacks while others can develop panic disorder.

Individuals who suffer from panic disorder experience frequent and unexpected panic attacks that are not associated with a specific situation. Also, individuals who suffer from panic disorder worry a lot about having another panic attack which makes the sufferer behave differently by engaging in avoidance or safety behaviors. Individuals with panic disorder experience recurrent attacks and often fear that they will experience another one.

Evidence-based treatment helps manage panic disorder including CBT and using techniques such as interoceptive exposures.

Exposure and response prevention is a powerful intervention in the treatment of OCD.

Let’s talk about the different approaches...

The Inhibitory model differs from emotional processing theory (habituation) in many different ways. Inhibitory learning is based on learning that you can tolerate the anxiety versus making the anxiety go down. The inhibitory model puts emphasis on exposures that violate expectancies not SUDs. Thus, we don’t learn as well when the lesson is what we expected. Therefore, to make exposures more effective; it’s best to make the exposures unexpected.

Elements of Inhibitory Learning (Source IOCDF)
* Focusing on Anxiety Tolerance instead of Habituation
* Disconfirming Expectations
* The Element of Surprise
* Combining Fear Cues
* Variety

These are some elements of inhibitory learning.

What are your thoughts based off the different models?

We treat all thoughts as equal. Accepting the thought does not mean we accept them as truths but that we can allow the thoughts to be there without giving it attention or value.

Obsessions are automatic but compulsions are a choice....

If a thought pops up, we can acknowledge the presence and carry on. Let's practice using non engagement responses...
