What Is Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery?

Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery is a minimally invasive procedure designed to restore proper drainage and airflow through the sinus passages.

Unlike traditional sinus surgery, it is performed entirely through the nostrils using a thin, lighted endoscope — meaning no external incisions, no visible scarring, and a more comfortable recovery.

The goal is not cosmetic. This procedure focuses on restoring natural sinus function by removing blockages such as tissue, bone, or polyps that prevent proper drainage.

When sinuses can function normally again, it helps reduce infections, inflammation, and long-term discomfort.

Happy National Doctor’s Day 🩺

Today feels a little different.
Not because of the title… but because of everything it took to carry it.
Years of discipline.
Long nights no one saw.

Moments that asked more of you than you thought you had.
I’m proud to be a double board-certified plastic surgeon,
but even more proud to stand among physicians who show up, every day, with skill, care, and integrity.

Happy National Doctor’s Day 🩺

to the ones who carry the weight of this responsibility with grace. It never goes unnoticed… and it’s deeply deserved.

Me: “Everyone freaks out about Botox needles.”
Patient: “I’m terrified of needles, doc.”

Me: …my soul just left the room. 😉

If sinus problems don’t go away, your body is giving signals.

Common signs include:
• Facial pressure
• Congestion
• Postnasal drip
• Loss of smell

Chronic sinusitis lasting 12+ weeks may require advanced treatment.

We spend so much time looking for symptoms that we miss the quiet signs everything is functioning exactly as it should.

As a surgeon, circulation tells me a lot about your overall health. Some of the best indicators are surprisingly simple.

The “Vascular Victory” Checklist, how many do you have?

1- Healthy (yes, hairy) toes: Hair growth requires strong oxygenated blood flow. Smooth, shiny toes can sometimes signal reduced circulation.

2-Visible veins during workouts: That’s vasodilation, your vessels expanding properly to regulate temperature and flow.

3-Pink nail beds: Press and release. If color returns in under 2 seconds, your capillary refill is strong.

4-Pale yellow urine: Proper hydration keeps blood viscosity lower and circulation smoother.

5-No deep sock marks: Minimal indentation means your veins are effectively pushing blood back up (no significant edema).

6-Warm hands and feet: Blood is reaching your extremities efficiently.

7-Cuts heal quickly: Your blood is delivering platelets and nutrients right on time.

8-No dizziness when standing: Your body is adjusting blood pressure against gravity like it should.
Resting heart rate under 75: An efficient heart doesn’t need to overwork.

9-You can walk without calf pain: No cramping (claudication) is one of the clearest signs of healthy arteries.

10-What’s your score out of 10?

Be honest… who has the “perfect 10” (and the hairy toes)? 👀

Struggling with constant sinus issues?

Endoscopic sinus surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that helps open blocked sinuses and restore natural airflow — all without external cuts or scars.

Using a tiny camera (endoscope), specialists can precisely remove blockages and improve breathing.

If medications aren’t giving relief, this advanced approach may be the next step toward long-term comfort.

You’d think it’s the precision.
The technique.
The artistry in the OR.
But ask a plastic surgeon their favorite moment… and it’s almost never that.
It’s the reveal.
The quiet pause before the mirror.
The after photos.
The way someone’s shoulders drop when they finally see themselves the way they’ve been hoping to.
It’s not just about changing a feature.
It’s about witnessing someone step into a version of themselves that feels aligned.
And honestly?
That part never gets old. 🤍✨
