Elizabeth Taylor established The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF) in 1991 to raise funds and awareness to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS, and to provide assistance for those living with the virus. With its focus on direct care and prevention education, ETAF funds AIDS organizations throughout the world, providing support services to populations most in need. The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundat

ion (1) supports organizations delivering direct care and services to people living with HIV/AIDS, and (2) supports organizations that provide education to the public regarding the AIDS virus and the prevention of AIDS. ETAF supports existing organizations and entities that have exhibited integrity in managing their operations along with the knowledge and ability to expediently provide services or achieve other designated goals.

National Asian & Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day serves as a vital reminder of the barriers these communities encounter when it comes to receiving HIV care.

Today highlights the importance and necessity of education, expanded testing, and preventative measures that align with the needs of these communities.

Today, we’d like to extend a special thank you to the volunteers, advocates, healthcare professionals, and researchers for their endless efforts in developing an HIV vaccine.

Scientific advancements have made it possible for HIV to no longer be a global health crisis, but HIV continues to be an ongoing issue. Having a HIV vaccine would result in lower rates of the disease being transmitted, but federal cuts have made it difficult to progress in its research.

As we recognize HIV Vaccine Awareness Day, we encourage you to stay informed and do what you can to ensure that this life-changing research can continue.

ETAF is spotlighting TaskForce Prevention and Community Services, a Community Partner supported through ETAF’s 2025 Emergency Grant Cycle!

TaskForce Prevention and Community Services is a multi-service, grassroots organization committed to improving the s*xual health and overall well-being of LGBTQ+ youth of color in Chicago by providing a safe space for fellowship, HIV/STI screening and education, and on-site referrals to medical, housing, and other social services.

ETAF is spotlighting the Southern Legal Center for Youth, a Community Partner supported through ETAF’s 2025 Emergency Grant Cycle!

The Southern Legal Center for Youth (SLCY), through the Southern Kiki Leaders Collective (SKLC), is advancing youth-led HIV prevention and care across the Southern United States. With support from ETAF, SKLC has expanded access to HIV and syphilis self-testing, peer navigation, and culturally relevant health education within the Kiki Ballroom community. SKLC built a growing network of community-based partners and meets young people where they are to distribute safer s*x materials and support linkage to care, PrEP, and treatment.

Their work centers Black and Latinx LGBTQIA+ youth, particularly those navigating housing instability, barriers to care, and systemic inequities. By combining self-testing with real-time navigation and community-based outreach, SKLC is creating pathways to prevention, treatment, and long-term wellness that are rooted in trust and lived experience.

“SKLC made me feel like I wasn’t alone in navigating my s*xual health. I didn’t feel judged. I knew who to call, and I felt supported.”

May is Mental Health Awareness month, a month that emphasizes the importance of protecting mental health resources, reducing stigma, and raising awareness.

People living with or impacted by HIV face unique challenges, including barriers to mental health care. Adults 50+ living with HIV are susceptible to mental health challenges, isolation, and stigma – obstacles we aim to address through the Elizabeth Taylor 50-Plus Network at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

The 50-Plus Network works hard to provide members with the tools and resources needed to feel connected and supported as they navigate living with HIV and aging. Learn more about the program at sfaf.org/programs/50-plus-network/
