Congratulations, Carlos Alcaraz on your fantastic win at the US Open Tennis Championships this year. 🎾

Now I’m fixated on your belly button, which seems to be a small outie.

Outie umbilicus is almost always due to an umbilical hernia.

Less often, the umbilicus is not a true outie but rather a thickened skin stalk based on how the umbilical cord healed.

Now I’m obsessed to know if indeed this is a hernia. Of course, if the hernia is asymptomatic, there is no need to repair it. But I still wanna know. All it takes is a simpler examination. 🧐

So, I just learned about , based on a article that explained the controversy about their squats.

Hyrox is an international competition where you must run 8km and perform at 8 workout stations, Station 8 being the most controversial: 100 . For a Wall Ball to count, squatting must be beyond parallel, or greater than 90 degrees. Otherwise it doesn’t count.

First of all, that sounds like form that is bad for your knees. But, as a , it freaks me out 😨😱😨😱seeing so many squats being done.

Studies show that squatting significantly increases your abdominal and pelvic pressures (unlikely most other exercises, including weightlifting and sit-ups). Yes, really! 🤓

And we believe that activities that increase abdominal pressure (eg, squats, chronic cough, straining due to constipation) can contribute to hernias. 🤨

So are all these competitors exposing themselves to hernias? 🤔

Comment below if you know anything about Hyrox

What a great demonstration by on how to be pregnant 🤰 while helping prevent permanent injuries from your pregnancy.

I am a big fan of the pregnancy belt. There are all sorts you can buy. The main goal is to help support the growing belly starting around month 5-6 of pregnancy. This is because, as the uterus enlarges, it:

😟 pushes on the bladder, causing frequent urination
😟 pushes on the pelvic lymph nodes and veins, causing leg swelling
😟 strains the pelvic floor muscles, contributing to uterine and bladder organ prolapse in your later years, and stress urinary incontinence
😟 starts to stretch out the abdominal wall, causing re**us diastasis and umbilical hernias
😟 adds extra strain on your lower back, causing back pain

Wearing a pregnancy belt towards your final trimester will help lift the uterus off your pelvic floor and also provide some back support, helping to reduce or even prevent many of the symptoms listed above.

As a hernia surgeon, I advocate for the liberal use of the pregnancy belt, especially for twins/triplets and for females who are on their feet and working through their third trimester. Trust me, you’ll thank me years later! 🙏

I see so many women who wished they knew to wear the belt, and now they have permanent injuries postpartum resulting in hernias, re**us diastasis, stress urinary incontinence, and chronic back pain.
