What a great demonstration by on how to be pregnant 🤰 while helping prevent permanent injuries from your pregnancy.
I am a big fan of the pregnancy belt. There are all sorts you can buy. The main goal is to help support the growing belly starting around month 5-6 of pregnancy. This is because, as the uterus enlarges, it:
😟 pushes on the bladder, causing frequent urination
😟 pushes on the pelvic lymph nodes and veins, causing leg swelling
😟 strains the pelvic floor muscles, contributing to uterine and bladder organ prolapse in your later years, and stress urinary incontinence
😟 starts to stretch out the abdominal wall, causing re**us diastasis and umbilical hernias
😟 adds extra strain on your lower back, causing back pain
Wearing a pregnancy belt towards your final trimester will help lift the uterus off your pelvic floor and also provide some back support, helping to reduce or even prevent many of the symptoms listed above.
As a hernia surgeon, I advocate for the liberal use of the pregnancy belt, especially for twins/triplets and for females who are on their feet and working through their third trimester. Trust me, you’ll thank me years later! 🙏
I see so many women who wished they knew to wear the belt, and now they have permanent injuries postpartum resulting in hernias, re**us diastasis, stress urinary incontinence, and chronic back pain.
