Last year around this time, I had to miss the annual meeting in beautiful Santa Barbara 🌴🌊. Life had other plans 😔—I was facing the very real risk of losing my home due to the Palisades 🔥 and couldn’t attend a meeting that means so much to me. This is a society I’ve been part of since 1998 (back when I was a resident!) and one I was honored to serve as its first female President 💪👩‍⚕️.

Fast-forward to THIS year ✨ and I couldn’t be happier to be back at the Southern California Chapter meeting of the 🎉. Reconnecting with friends 🤍, seeing former trainees 🙌, and diving into important surgical topics 🧠🔬—it feels so good to be here.

After years of dedication, mentorship, service, and an unwavering commitment to surgical education, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been promoted to Volunteer Clinical Professor of Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA 🏥✨

This highest attainable milestone as a surgeon in private practice represents countless hours of teaching, learning, and growing alongside extraordinary mentors, colleagues, and trainees. I’m deeply thankful to those who supported this journey every step of the way 🙏🏼🤝

Becoming a professor is not just a title—it’s a privilege and a commitment to lead with integrity, teach with purpose, and continue serving patients and learners with excellence.

And truly, this feels like one of the best Christmas gifts I could have received 🎄🎁

We dove into a super-interesting topic: how an abdominoplasty (aka tummy tuck!) can sometimes be an alternative to traditional hernia repair. 🤯💡

In my practice, we’re running an ongoing study where we use fascial plication during a tummy tuck to create a mesh-less hernia repair 😍✨
This can be a great option for patients who can’t or prefer not to have mesh — and who are already great candidates for abdominoplasty. 💪🏽💖
