While some professional devices are FDA-cleared for treating wrinkles and scars, many others aren’t regulated or reviewed for safety. The agency has reported risks like burns, infections, pigment changes, scarring, and nerve damage—particularly with radiofrequency (RF) microneedling.

The FDA is urging consumers to verify that any device used is FDA-cleared and performed by trained professionals.
