While planning a new garden at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens, Georgia, manager Jessica Hurt saw more than just plants—she saw potential.

Thanks to the talented students from the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art, that vision came to life as a stunning 15 ft. by 22 ft. mural on the side of a . The artwork celebrates the plants and wildlife that already call home, blending beauty with local ecology in a meaningful and lasting way.

It is with completely broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Patrick Shawn Connor, 59, of Dunnellon, FL, on April 24th, 2026.
Patrick was born on October 10, 1966, in Lenexa, Kansas to Theresa Jones & Gerald Connor. He was one of four siblings and is survived by his sisters Shari, Cindy & Kathy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his big brother Steve, and two of his beloved nephews.
Pat knew from an early age that he wanted to join the military and at 18 he did just that. He spent several years at Whitman Air Force Base before transferring to Westover AFB as an Air Reserve Technician. He remained an ART for the next 20-some odd years, mentoring and molding hundreds of young airmen along the way. Patrick ended his Air Force career at the beautiful MacDill AFB in 2022 as the Quality Assurance Superintendent. In 2020 Pat & his wife Sarah opened ASAP Home Inspections, where Pat thrived as a Certified Master Home Inspector.
Besides his valiant love for the military, he also loved being a dad. Patrick is survived by his two beloved children: Jessica (Emily) & Kim-ly. Pat thought nothing could be better than being a father, and then he met his first grandson Casey. He enjoyed their times spent having Five Guys, visits to Rockaway Beach and stopping to smell the flowers. Pat was also a loving Uncle to many nieces and nephews and cherished by his many in-laws.
In Patrick’s free time, between inspecting homes & pumping iron in the garage, he could be found anywhere with his best friend & wife Sarah. The two spent their lives traveling all over the country & recently the world. They volunteered with 4 Lucky Dogs together, adopting 7 of their own 4-legged friends. They were happiest just being together.
Pat’s generosity and huge heart will be missed clear across the country. He gave the shirt off his back – happily – he was the first to volunteer for anything, and he would go the extra mile to anyone in need. Pat was gifted with the ability to strike a conversation with anyone & made friends with everyone. His wheezy laugh & bright smile will be forever imprinted in our hearts.
Visitation will be on April 30th at 3 o’clock In the afternoon at Fero Funeral Home in Beverly Hills, FL. Funeral to follow Friday, May 1st at 9 o’clock in the morning with a burial at Florida National Cemetery at 12:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Believe With Me, an organization dedicated to supporting families who have lost a loved one through Killed in Action, training incidents, PTSD-related su***de, service-connected illness, or active duty accidents. Contributions in his memory will help carry on this meaningful mission of care and remembrance.
