Dissociation Deprivation
And one day
You will love
And you will accept it when someone loves you
You won’t always wonder if they hate you
There will be a love inside for all the parts of you
When you feel the deep love for yourself…
This is something you don’t want to miss
You will know that what you searched for, endlessly, was right there
inside of you
You will distinguish between who is for you
And who is not
You will trust your intuition and feelings
Your trauma won’t camouflage what you see any longer
Or when it does, or tries to, you will separate out who is who
Who is a character from the past
Imprinting on those around you
And who is the now
You will know
You couldn’t know before
You mistrusted those that you, by necessity, relied upon
And when it was too dangerous to trust
You turned away and turned inward
You erected a barrier
That barrier caused extreme dissociation deprivation
You couldn’t tell any longer
Who cared and who did not
That barrier left you dead inside
Unable to feel
It left you confused
About everything
Without feeling, there was no YOU to access
This is the tragedy of trauma
When you wake up
There will be grief
For all that has been lost
There will be anguished pain
You will think you can’t
But you can
You will
When you wake up
You will hear the inside voices
The ones that spew hate and judgement
Merciless in their hostility and revulsion
Those voices have been there, all along
But their destruction was undercover
Hidden from your conscious
awareness
You will tame those voices
You will understand their genesis
Fear, terror
And yes, protector
Or so they think
You will calm them
Befriend them
Love them
When you wake up
We will hold you feelings
Together
For however long
And One day
You will feel joy
When you tell me you felt it
You felt love
For your own self
The dance between the inside terror voices and your own love voice
They will tango
For a time
It doesn’t mean you regressed
It’s the way of things
Your journey to healing
It will be all things
And one day
You will say
I am human
I am here
I recognize life
I am loved
I wish you tenderness
On your journey
