Re•Posted • Bob Marley was born on February 6, 1945. Today, he would have been 80 years old. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 36 from melanoma.

When a dark spot appeared under his toenail, Marley attributed it to a soccer injury. However, the spot under his nail was acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM), a rare, aggressive form of skin cancer. ⁠He was not treated, the cancer spread and caused his untimely death.

Did you know that melanoma in people of color often occurs on areas that get little sun exposure. Up to 75 percent of tumors arise on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, under the nail (subungual) and the nail areas. ⁠
