Breast lift scars explained ✨
One of the most common questions I get is, “What kind of scar will I have after a breast lift?” The answer depends on your anatomy, the amount of excess skin, and the level of lift needed. My goal is always to use the least amount of incision possible while still delivering a safe, long lasting, and beautifully shaped result.
Here’s a simple breakdown 👇
🔹 Crescent
A small semi circular incision along the top of the ar**la. Best for very mild sagging and subtle lifts.
🔹 Periar**lar
An incision placed around the ar**la. This allows repositioning of the ni**le with minimal scarring and is ideal for mild to moderate ptosis.
🔹 Lollipop or Vertical
An incision around the ar**la with a vertical line down the lower breast. This offers more lift and reshaping while still keeping scars limited.
🔹 Anchor or Wise Pattern
Used when there is significant skin laxity, often after weight loss or pregnancy. This provides the most powerful reshaping and support for long term results.
Every breast lift is customized. Sometimes we plan for a less extensive incision, but intraoperatively we may need to adjust to achieve the safest and best contour. Precision and outcome always come first.

Not all breast lifts or augmentations use the same incision/implant. The right technique depends on breast size, skin quality, and how much lift or reshaping is needed.

✂️ Why tailor tacking matters
During surgery, we sometimes use to temporarily bring the skin together. This allows us to assess shape, symmetry, and tension before finalizing the incisions.
In this case, we originally planned for a lollipop incision, but once the surgery began, it became clear there was excess skin underneath the breast due to weight loss after adding the To achieve the best shape and long-term result, we changed to a wise pattern excision.
This is why surgical planning must remain flexible and why experience matters. The goal is always the safest approach with the most natural outcome.

All surgical procedures are performed in a state-of-the-art surgical center, located at the heart of Beverly Hills. Babak Moein, MD, FACS is one of the very few surgeons in the country that is dual fellowship trained in minimally invasive surgery as well as cosmetic aesthetic and body contouring surgery. He is the only surgeon in Southern California with such qualifications. This combination of training offers a significant advantage to his patients during their assessment and surgical planning and makes Dr. Moein uniquely qualified among his colleagues to meet the cosmetic needs of his patients. The ability to achieve a patient’s cosmetic goals through the use of minimally invasive techniques allows for better decision making on both short-term cosmetic goals and long-term preservation of such changes.
Dr. Moein is a native to Los Angeles, completing his high School at Calabasas high school in 1988. He attended University of California Los Angeles where he received a service excellence award for volunteer work at the UCLA Medical Center while completing both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and graduating from the College Honors Program with distinction.
He then attended medical school at George Washington University School of medicine and received the Robert Dodeck Scholarship award, in 1999. He then completed an intensive surgery internship at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Subsequently, he completed his residency in general surgery at the prestigious Georgetown University Medical Center in 2004.
His keen interest in minimally invasive surgery then prompted him to complete a laparoscopic and bariatric surgery fellowship at Albert Einstein School of Medicine, Montefiore Hospital in NYC. Following this, he practiced for 8 years at Greater Baltimore Medical Center where he performed over 2000 minimally invasive procedures and surgeries as attending surgeon. During this period, Dr. Moein developed a thorough understanding of the cosmetic needs of his post-weight loss surgery patients and developed a plan for creating one of the most comprehensive cosmetic and minimally invasive weight loss surgical programs in the country.
His passion for aesthetic balance and his keen understanding of artistic beauty prompted Dr. Moein to pursue a second fellowship, this time in cosmetic surgery. During his fellowship, Dr. Moein performed over 1400 advanced cosmetic plastic surgeries. He had the distinct opportunity to train under the world-renowned surgeon, Angelo Cuzalina, MD, the former president of American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. This surgical cosmetic training along with his background as an experienced minimally invasive surgeon has made Dr. Moein one of the most uniquely qualified cosmetic surgeons in Southern California.
