Running a turkey trot on Thursday? I'm sure you're thinking about all of the wonderful food you will enjoy after the race, but what about fueling before your run? Wednesday is rest day - physically and mentally - while eating high-quality carbohydrates and proteins and fully hydrating. Many races begin early in the morning on Thursday, and it's important to get some calories into your body early. Try to get up at least 2 hours before your race, eat a breakfast with easy to digest carbohydrates that is familiar to you, avoiding fats and fiber that could cause discomfort at race time. Some runners prefer just a banana or a sports drink, others a bowl of oatmeal with fruit and honey. Fuel up and get out there to enjoy the day!

Holiday eating on your mind? Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday: a morning run, cooking together, family visiting, and all of the traditional foods -- most of which fit right into my preferred eating plan! Lean protein and nice variety of veggies provide a great opportunity to load up on macros and micros. Want to enjoy your meal without over-stuffing yourself or feeling awful the next day? Pile up the turkey and veggie sides, swap squash for potatoes, skip the corn bread and stuffing, and seek out the fruit-fulled dessert! Apple crisp is on my menu this year.
