In September 2024, I took a trip to visit my mentor and friend, Kevin to finish my Level III Reiki training.

We had been meeting virtually for months and to conclude with my Level III I flew to North Carolina, just 10 days before the devastation of Hurricane Helene hit.

It was a quick weekend with soul filling conversations and soul moving experiences. The day I left, Kevin brought me on joy ride in Clyde (his classic BMW, RIP) for a tour of the land.

We were both drawn to this, no doubted, sacred area in Hot Springs. This with our shared love for land, compassion, and healing set the foundation for the workshop that’s coming next week.

Kevin has decades of experience in a wide variety of mediums, leading to this unique wonderfully eclectic offering.

We have 2 more spots left. We hope you can join us.

Now implementing Fancy Friday 👑

When out & about one person asked “what’s the occasion?” My answer “just because!”

My goal as a parent is to support my child in living their authentic life. Desmond wanted to go to our appointments today as Princess Peach, so why not!?

Before my personal work I would have felt embarrassed to have the eyes on us, today I embraced our joy.

I’m so thankful that I allow myself to play and be playful, it’s so freeing!

Flowers twice in one day, I sure am lucky!

First set was from a very sweet new provider friend, Kat! We got together to connect and work on sharing knowledge, it was such a beautiful and heartwarming surprise 💕🌻

The second set is from my husband, just because they looked pretty and thought I’d like them! My son said they were family flowers, what a sweet and thoughtful gift! 💛💐

This mixed with lunch with (thank you for treating me! 🥰) and spending time with Melissa, Gina, and Jess; I’m really feeling the love today!

Thank you to all of the lovely people in my life!

I am 1 in 5.

1 in 5 people, to include non-birthing parents and partners, experience a Perinatal Mood Disorder.

My mission is to spread education that it’s not just Postpartum Depression. It can start while trying to conceive, with loss, during pregnancy, and up to two years postpartum. You could be unaffected with your first or even second and be affected in your proceeding pregnancies/postpartum experiences.

My history of mental health disorders increased the likelihood of me being affected by Perinatal Mood Disorder. My experience increased the likelihood of my partner being affected.

My body was really good at identifying risks, like a little too good. My PTSD, ADD, and OCD tendencies were all exacerbated, even after years of managing and healing.

My symptoms felt different so it was harder for me to identify and it took me years to truly realize what was going on. But when I did, I was able to get the appropriate support I needed.

You are not alone, you don’t have to do it alone, we were meant to.

I’m often asked how I became interested in working with pregnant and birthing people. My answer is not that much different than why I joined the field. I want to provide to others what I needed myself.

Almost immediately after conception as hormones started to shift and I was living in a premenstrual dysphoric state daily, I was living with perinatal anxiety and I had no idea. Extreme anger outbursts, constant worry, all exacerbated by fatigue and my hyper mobile body going from Gumby to puddy.

The pregnancy itself was healthy and steady, with some concerns, but mostly manageable. It wasn’t until the Mom 2020 training with that I started to realize what was happening.

Let me remind you, I was a Clinical Mental Health Counselor working in the field for 4 years and had no idea what was happening. I immediately started working with my midwives to get on proper medication and did start to feel relief.

Once my son was born, I struggled without even realizing. I thankfully had an experienced Lactation Consultant who helped me discover I was experiencing Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (DMER), where I was experiencing extreme negative feelings with my let down while breastfeeding.

Oh, not to mention I gave birth in the very beginning of COVID. Leading to increased feeling of grief, loss, confusion, and navigating the unknown.

The picture of my son in the body wrap was a major success. I had so much anxiety around even trying, I worked so hard to get there. We barely went out of our yard, I was so afraid. I still didn’t know I was in the throws of a postpartum mood disorder.

It took me years to get it figured out. Between sleep deprivation, not recognizing intrusive thoughts, the inability to ask for support, almost three years of breastfeeding on top of feeling isolated, struggling with mom guilt and trying to navigate a world I knew very little about.

I am so grateful for my team of providers and for my friends & family who were there. In all these pictures I’m smiling, but behind the scenes I was scared, working so hard against myself, and running on fumes.

So my answer is I found my passion to support people like me.

Welcome Kelcy!

I am so excited .lmt has decided to join the space at The Counseling Collective of Maine! Her trauma informed body work is a perfect match for the center. She’s currently booking for mid-May via online booking through her website.

Kelcy (she/her) became licensed to practice massage in 2000 after experiencing how profoundly body work impacted her life. Built on a trauma-sensitive foundation, she holds space for her clients to choose their individual healing journey.

Kelcy tailors each session to include any combination of reflexology, aromatherapy, deep tissue, Swedish techniques, hot stones, and cupping. She is a preferred practitioner with the Society for Oncology Massage and hopes to support clients with cancer related symptoms and side effects.

In addition to her massage work, Kelcy is a yoga instructor (E-RYT® 200, RYT® 500), and is a facilitator for Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive yoga.

Kelcy received her certificate of completion in Traumatic Stress Studies through the Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute in 2018. She is a certification mentor at The Center for Trauma and Embodiment (CFTE) for the 300 hour program and is committed to continuing her learning and deepening her understanding of trauma and healing.

Kelcy believes deeply in the power of collective and community care and that we are all the experts of our own bodies. Kelcy’s greatest gift has been walking along side her husband in life as they raise their two kids, teens now, and watch them launch into life.

Her past experience working in group homes, homeless shelters, jails, prison and as a midwife taught her there is more than one way to heal the body.
