This seems like it was weeks, but it was only barely a week ago. Syd Blue and i took a quick paddle out on the lake to assess the smoke situation before deciding how when or if we should evac. Guess I forgot to tell you all about this short video uploaded to my YouTube channel. This information was just speculative last week, the situation has definitely gone up and down, but at almost 50% containment now, the Line fire appears to be a beast that can be tamed, thankfully!
I’d like to put out a huge thanks to all the firefighters on the ground & in the air, hot shots, emergency workers, and National Guard that were busting their butts to join forces and get the situation under control.
I’d also like to say how upsetting it is that one person could have caused this much damage, let’s hope that complete waste of life who intentionally set this fire gets locked up for as long as humanly possible. 
It’s eerie having the town be this deserted though, but I would like to think that it won’t be lasting long, especially with Oktoberfest in full swing and the lake still being open. The forest closures on the south shore are necessary, but also going to keep many people away, unfortunately. If you are a local or happen to be in big bear visiting, go out and support our local restaurants and shops and services, spread the word for others to do so, even a gift certificate purchase will help.
Big Bear has been through many hardships over the years. Fire, snow, road closures all affect our little, but mighty town. But we will get through this, and besides, it could have been a lot, a lot worse. Stay positive big bear! Love to all! 🫶
