Dear Patients:

I have been honored to care for our community over the last 37 years, but the time has come for me to retire from my practice. My staff and I will close the practice effective Friday, March 15, 2024.

We are committed to facilitating a smooth transition of your care.

All medical records are confidential and protected by federal privacy and security regulations. With your authorization, a copy of your medical records can be released to you or transferred to another physician.

You have a few options:

● You may pick up your medical records at Dr. Richards’ office, or

● You may have them sent to a physician you designate

Contact my office no later than March 1, 2024, if you would like to obtain or transfer your medical records.

After March 15, 2024, you may mail your records request to Professional Image P.O. Box 8114 South Charleston, WV 25303. You can contact them by phone at 304-965-2060.

There will be no charge for records requested by another physician for transfer of care, however, if you request your medical records to be mailed to you directly the chart management company will charge a fee.

We will be closed next week- July 4th-July 7th. We are usually closed on Fridays but will be open this Friday July 1st. If you need anything for next week please call the office tomorrow or Friday so we have time to get it ready. If you need medical attention next week please go to an urgent care facility or the ER depending on your need. We will reopen Monday July 11th with normal business hours- Monday through Thursday 8-4.

Our office has been without electricity yesterday (Monday 1/17/22) and today (Tuesday 1/18/22) due to the weather. Hopefully it will be restored before tomorrow. Thank you for understanding.

Due to staff illness, COVID-19 and a staff shortage our office will most likely be closed to in person appointments this week. We are doing some telehealth. If you need anything please call the office at 304-935-2513 and leave a message. We will check them as often as we can but keep in mind there will be 1 employee there. If you have a medical emergency please call 911 or go to to ER. If you have a non emergent medical need please go to an urgent care facility. Thank you for understanding!

We now have a limited number of rapid COVID-19, Flu A, and Flu B antigen tests (it's one swab that tests for all 3) available for current patients only. Call 304-935-2513 to speak to our nurse- Crystal- to set up an appointment. We come to your car and your results are available in 15 minutes.

Dr. Richards office is a provider of board certified family medicine that has been in business for 30 years in the Elkview area. We serve the residents of Elkview and surrounding areas with high quality medical care for the entire family.
Dr. Richards graduated from the Philadelphia College Of Osteopathic Medicine in 1980 and specializes in family medicine. He has been in practice in the Elkview area since 1989.
As a board certified family physician, Dr. Richards accepts patients ranging from birth to end of life. If you are a new patient, please contact our office and you will be assisted by a member of our knowledgeable and caring staff. Before we can schedule you for a first time appointment, you will need to fill out a new patient form that has to first be reviewed by Dr. Richards. When you are accepted as a patient, a member of our staff will contact you to schedule. If you are not we will mail you a letter, as sometimes we don't accept certain insurances or certain medical ailments. We do not provide chronic pain management.
We are open Monday through Thursday from 8:00am-4:00pm. You may reach us by phone at 304-935-2513 from 8:00am-11:00am and from 1:00pm-4:00pm. If we do not answer please leave a message on the operator's voicemail and your call will be returned as soon as possible. We are closed on Fridays.
Our office has an on site lab- Charleston Area Medical Center LabWorks- available during normal business hours for convenience for our patients. This can be used for labs ordered in office or even for an order from another physician for current patients.
Since Dr. Richards is a D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathy) he can perform Osteopathic Manipulative Treatments. Osteopathic manipulative treatment, or OMT, is hands-on care. It involves using the hands to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. Using OMT, Dr. Richards will move your muscles and joints using techniques including stretching, gentle pressure and resistance. This can be used in addition to or replacing medication treatments.
