This afternoon, BIEC, in conjunction with the fire department and special operations personnel, responded to a reported stuck boat in the James River area near the GP mill. BIEC's Ambulance 2-1 promptly responded to the scene to provide medical assistance as needed. During deployment of boats, Ambulance 2-1 played a crucial role in facilitating assistance due to having a certified boat operator on board, which enabled the swift deployment of the boat to aid the stranded boater. Upon successful resolution, all units returned to service.

BIEC participated in Career Day at Big Island Elementary School this past Friday morning. We taught the kids what a normal day looked like on duty, and how to get involved in EMS. We also showed the kids the various pieces of equipment we use, such as the ambulance, power stretcher, stair chair, cardiac monitor, and the Jaws of Life tools on our support unit. Thank you to the school for including us in your Career Day.

The Big Island Emergency Crew has been actively responding to emergency calls, responding to 60 incidents in the Big Island Community and surrounding Bedford County areas since the beginning of the year.

Today, Support 2-1 was the first unit to arrive to a single-vehicle accident in the Coleman Falls area, where the occupant was safe and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Upon arrival, Fire-Ambulance 14-2 took over patient care. Although Ambulance 2-1 was initially dispatched to the scene, it was canceled prior to arrival, and BIVFD arrived to handle traffic control.

We appreciate the community's ongoing support, which enables us to deliver effective services.
