Classes to fill your heart and fill your 2025.
This month, there are just a couple of remaining spaces available for the Restorative Blend class (THIS SATURDAY!)
Monday evenings- CORE CENTERED YOGA- The focus is on strengthening the back, abdominals, hips/thighs, shoulders & chest. Flowing between muscle building and stretching, all wound together in awareness and intention.
Thursday mornings - POWER EXPRESS- 45 minutes of loving movement to build mobility and strength. Just show up and get your move on!

Motivation, if anything, is an outcome.
You can’t control motivation. It can’t be directly pursued.

What you can control is the series of factors that underpin motivation.

Just knowing this can help you:

Stop waiting for a green light to get started.
Realize that, even if it’s hard, taking action gets you closer to the goal that keeps you up at night.
Understand that doing the right thing in the moment is totally within your control.
With this approach, no matter what happens, you can move forward and make progress on any given day. And that progress, even if small, feels good and can be enough to keep you going… until the next day.

This is how you achieve great things.

Yes, it might be a long, slow, hard journey. But when we look back on our lives, what we remember most will be the things that were worth struggling for—and the way it felt to earn our happiness.

These days, there’s a lot of emphasis on setting goals (e.g. lose 20 pounds) and then following a program (e.g. a diet plan) to achieve those goals.⁣

When it comes to goals, we’re taught to think about what we want to accomplish. Then we’re supposed to make the goal specific, measurable, attainable, etc.⁣

What happens once we’ve done all that? When we’ve set the ultimate goal?⁣

For most people, not much.⁣

That’s because goals aren’t achieved through the mere act of setting them. And goals aren’t achieved through sheer force of will.⁣

Based on my experience, success actually follows a different process. The formula pretty much looks like this:⁣

1. Practice daily to build skills.⁣
2. Build skills to achieve goals.

Some people call this approach habit-based, others call it practice-based.⁣

This approach is progressive and helps people build transferable skills while stair-stepping their way to real, *sustainable* change.⁣

The real question they have is: How do I consistently eat healthy, balanced meals in the context of real life?⁣

Stress and obesity are more closely intertwined than previously thought.

That’s because stress can affect several systems involved in weight control including:

Cognition
Stress can mess with your mind, specifically thinking, planning, and organizing, as well as the ability to focus and manage your emotions.

Behaviors
Stress influences what you eat, how much you move, and how well you sleep. And these behaviors all have their own feedback loops too.

Physiology
It jacks up hormones that leave you hungry, boost cravings for sugar and fat, mess with your microbiome, and increase fat storage.

Biochemistry
Stress may also impact blood chemical like leptin, ghrelin, and neuropeptide Y, which affect hunger, appetite, and fat storage.

Weight stigma
Obesity leads to weight stigma which creates… more stress. And on we go.

In light of Mental Health Awareness Day, let's look at Control!

When you fixate on what you CAN'T control, you get stuck in a negativity zone. Progress stalls, and life feels harder than it should.

On the other hand, by placing your attention on what you CAN control, you’ll feel calmer and more capable of slaying your day.

BTW there’s more stuff within your control than you may think.
