Colleague Training in St. Louis, Missouri at Independence Center St. Louis was a fantastic experience for Blake and Dom! They went from March 1st-March 13th. There were many long days working, developing an Action Plan for NJC, participating in daily discussions and daily readings, but being able to participate in this opportunity allowed for growth in many ways. It wasn't just all work though, as these two got to experience many local sites, such as the Arch, city museums, and the St. Louis Zoo when they had some free time. Oh, and the food was absolutely divine (pictures don't do it justice!).

Thank you to Independence Center for hosting this training. It was a once in a lifetime experience and one that will stick forever. Congratulations on completing the trainings Blake and Dom!

HEALTHY TIPS OF THE WEEK!

Why is movement so crucially important in our life!?

boosts brain health
enhances mood
improves sleep
strengthens our cardiovascular and muscular systems
reduces stress
Some regular activity include:
Walking,
biking,
Light chores,
Working out in the wellness center, or your gym,
Walk around the block with Alora and the ch t,w,th,
Swimming,
Dancing,
Doing any movement you enjoy.
Also, helps brain and mental health.
Energy.
Sleep'
Weight management.
THIRTY MINUTES A DAY!! And you can break it up throughout your day.

I will end with a quote from one of my teachers: "Movement reorients our minds and emotions and give us another language not only for our grief but also hope."

Eat this/not that. follow the foods under eat this, and the foods under not that.

Figs/cookies
Brown rice/white rice
Oil and vinegar/prepared salad dressing
Sweet potatoes/white potatoes
Whole wheat bread/white bread
Unbuttered popcorn/potato chips
Whole wheat pretzels/regular pretzels
Grilled or roasted chicken/fried chicken
Dark chocolate/milk-chocolate
Blueberries/cereal bar
Whole wheat pasta/white pasta
High-fiber cereal/sugary cereal
Broiled salmon/fish sticks
Steel-cut oats/instant oatmeal
Nuts or seeds/chips or crackers
Greek yogurt/ice cream
Olive oil/butter

HEALTHY TIPS OF THE WEEK!

Let's talk about STRESS!

Stress is linked to increased risk for cardiovascular disease.
Stress has a big impact on our heart health.
Take time to destress and this will help you lead to a healthier life, mentally and physically.
Stress leads to depression, anxiety, and burnout.
Long term stress affects all systems of the body (musculoskeletal, respiratory, gastrointestinal, nervous , and reproductive.)
Stress may raise your blood pressure and increases the risk of heart attacks and stroke.
Stress can lead to overeating or smoking.
Take time for activities you enjoy. Play with your kids or pets, catch up with a friend, stretch, move, and garden.
Exercise helps you refocus your mind off of stressful situations.
Try doing some fun wellness activities.

YOGA, BREATHING EXERCISES, ANY MOVEMENT IN THE WELLNESS CENTER.

Start a journal.

If you don't destress. you may get a headache, back strain, stomach pain, a rash, become irritable, and forgetful.
So, do it!!!
