To realize that you're the hope and the dream of a slave is phenomenal to me. I started this journey to originally to find out the history and background on Edd Williams. I have done that and more! From Edd’s mother Katherine “Cassie” Brandon Williams I was able to trace all the way back to a slave named Jemmy Brandon who was listed as a negro in the household of Nathaniel Harrison, Esquire at the Brandon Plantation in Surry County, Virginia on July 15, 1728.

This man is the whole reason I started this genealogy journey! It’s a lot of Williams’ but no one could give me solid info on my great-great grandfather but had all of the Ledford info but don’t fret….Ladies & Gentlemen, boys & girls!!! Now introducing the Ledford-Williams patriarch! Hailing all the way from route 10 Big Rock (Stewart County), Tennessee! Hattie Bennetta (Ledford) Williams’ beau for nearly 120 years!!! Farmer and Father of 16 children (see next post)!!! Dempsey “Edd” Williams (the second “D” is silent) aka Edd D. Williams aka Ed Williams aka Edward Williams aka Edward Williams, Sr. !!!! These are all the aliases of this great man! Edd, the second child, was born July 7, 1887 to the late Dempsey and Catherine “Cassie” (Brandon) Williams! Edd had two sisters Allie Williams & Hatie (Williams) Dycus! Edd passed on to glory on August 23, 1935. He is interred at Woodlawn Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery! Here’s a photo of Edd that was restored in the 90s by Jon Ardinger Photography Studios. Mr. Ardinger restored 4 photos to include Hattie Williams, Thomas Riley Ledford & Lucy Ledford. The second picture is Edd’s Military Draft Registration card for WWI and the third is his death certificate !!!
