Before you jump straight in to telling yourself how to be better this year…

Before you look in the mirror and tell yourself how to look better this year…

Before you write down all the things you plan to do better this year…

Maybe take a moment to sit with the person you are right now. The one who has gotten you this far.
The one who has helped you over however many hurdles and shared with you so many successes.

Maybe take a minute to recognise all of the ways you are already so much better than you realised.

Recognise your strength,
your courage,
your kindness,
your resolve.

And hold on to that.
Don’t discard the you that got you here.
Don’t shame her,
guilt her,
doubt her.

But love her instead.

And maybe you’ll realise
that - despite what you first thought -
there isn’t quite as much ‘bettering’ to be done
after all.

-earth angel-

There’s stars in her eyes,
And moonbeams in her hair;
She speaks in a whisper,
She jumps at a dare.

She has fire in her heart,
And a song on her lips;
She loves to dance,
She has wisdom and wit.

She’s taking a chance,
And making the leap;
She’ll be the first one to tell you,
Talk is real cheap.

She’s a lone wolf,
Never a sheep;
She’s a pool of water,
Whose thoughts are deep.

She’s a poet and a mystic,
A healer and a friend;
She’s an earth bound angel,
Upon whom you can depend.

What is her name,
Oh, you never will know;
For all you can catch,
Is her radiant glow.

Fun fact. Wolf spiders will hunt and eat brown recluse spiders (also known as fiddlebacks), in addition to venomous black widow spiders, cockroaches, crickets, beetles and silverfish.

Please don't squish them.

You have the narrative.

If my life was a song
Then I wonder who’d listen
Who’d fall in love
With the music I’d written?

Who’d sing my notes
At the top of their lungs?
Be moved by the melody
They had just sung?

Who’d hate the chorus -
The words on repeat?
Who’d feel my rhythm
And dance to the beat?

Who’d want to alter
My pitch and my tone?
Who’d only listen
In secret, alone?

If our lives are all songs
Then perhaps we should listen
More closely to what
Other people have written

And we’ll hear the pitch
Of their highs and their lows
The change as the music
Gets faster then slows

We’ll learn all their words
And we’ll know when to sing
And when to be quiet
And not say a thing

We’ll know all their rhymes
And repeated refrains
We’ll listen to them
And they might do the same

They might learn the lyrics
And chords to our track
And when we sing our song
Then they might sing it back

And right at the moment
They echo our words
We’ll realise just how much
We need to be heard
