Thank you for all the support and for helping get this page to 700 followers. I truly appreciate every share, every comment, every referral, and every athlete and patient who walks through our doors. ☝🏻

It’s a blessing to be able to serve the people of this area — the same community that helped build me into who I am today. SWVA raised me, shaped me, and gave me opportunities. Being able to give back through physical therapy means more than I can put into words. 🏔️🤝🏻

We are working on a lot of things at Moving Forward to better serve Southwest Virginia. Big things ahead.‼️🔜

If you believe in what we’re building, share this post and help us continue reaching more people across SWVA. 📲☑️

Grateful for every one of you. 🙌🏻

‼️SWVA athletes and families, concussions are common, but proper management is critical‼️

A concussion is considered a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), but there is nothing “minor” about how it can affect your function.

Headaches. Dizziness. Brain fog. Balance issues. Fatigue.
These symptoms are caused by temporary brain dysfunction, not structural damage and the goal is restoring normal brain function safely.

🧠 What Happens After a Concussion?
▫️ Chemical and electrical imbalances
▫️ Reduced blood flow
▫️ Temporary energy crisis in brain cells
▫️ Nervous system stress

🏥 Common Causes:
✔️ Sports collisions
✔️ Falls
✔️ Motor vehicle accidents
✔️ Direct blows to the head
✔️ Rapid acceleration / deceleration injuries

🔹 How Physical Therapy Helps:
▶️ Cervical manual therapy for neck-related symptoms
▶️ Balance and vestibular retraining
▶️ Vision and eye movement exercises
▶️ Sub-symptom aerobic progression
▶️ Education and symptom-guided recovery

🏈🏀🏐Return to Sport Matters⚽️🥎🤼‍♂️

Recovery is not “wait until you feel better and go play.”
It’s a graded progression:
Activity → Practice → Play

Each step requires expert monitoring to reduce risk of prolonged symptoms or repeat injury.

‼️At Moving Forward Physical Therapy, we provide evidence-based concussion management with individualized progression and symptom tracking.‼️

▶️ Progress update at the clinic and it just keeps getting better ✅

Collyn is now back to throwing an 81 MPH fastball and continuing to progress each week.

⚾️ Fastball velocity climbing
⚾️ Changeup thrown consistently with confidence
⚾️ Breaking balls begin next week

From Day 1 of the throwing program to now, the work has been steady, intentional, and earned. This is what trusting the process looks like.

‼️SWVA athletes — UCL repair doesn’t mean the end. It means commit to the rehab, trust the progression, and stack wins week by week. Just like Collyn, if you’re ready to put in the work, we’re ready to guide you back to the mound 💪🏼🔥

‼️SWVA COMMUNITY — Low back pain is one of the MOST common conditions we treat in physical therapy‼️

Nearly 8 out of 10 people will experience low back pain at some point in their lives. It’s one of the leading causes of missed work, limited activity, and decreased quality of life.

But understanding the type of back pain is what drives effective treatment.

🏋️‍♂️ Low Back Pain: Classifications That Matter 🏋️‍♀️

🔹 Common PT Classifications We Evaluate For:
▫️ Non-specific mechanical low back pain
▫️ Herniated disc / radiculopathy
▫️ Lumbar spinal stenosis
▫️ Sacroiliac joint dysfunction
▫️ Facet joint dysfunction
▫️ Spondylolisthesis / instability

🔹 Why Classification Matters:
▶️ Different pain patterns respond to different exercises
▶️ Some conditions prefer flexion, others extension
▶️ Stability deficits require motor control training
▶️ Certain symptoms require medical referral

🔹 Red Flags We Screen For:
🚩 Progressive neurological deficits
🚩 Bowel or bladder dysfunction
🚩 Unexplained weight loss or fever
🚩 History of cancer, osteoporosis, or trauma

Back pain is common — but chronic, limiting pain is not something you have to live with.

‼️At MFPT, we don’t just treat “back pain.” We evaluate, classify, and build a plan that restores movement and reduces recurrence.‼️

‼️ SWVA COMMUNITY — MFPT can treat Parkinson’s Disease effectively and efficiently ‼️

🧠 Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition that affects movement, balance, and coordination.

🔹 How Symptoms Often Start:
▫️ Develop gradually over time
▫️ Small tremors in one hand or foot
▫️ Muscle stiffness
▫️ Changes in motor control

🔹 What’s Happening Internally:
🧪 Dopamine is a chemical that regulates movement
🧠 In Parkinson’s, nerve cells that produce dopamine deteriorate
📉 As dopamine decreases, movement becomes slower and less coordinated

🔹 Common Challenges:
⚖️ Balance difficulties
🚶 Increased fall risk
🧍 Muscle rigidity
🧠 Possible cognitive changes

🔹 How Physical Therapy Helps:
▶️ Reactive balance training
▶️ Gait retraining
▶️ Postural stabilization
▶️ Fall prevention strategies
▶️ Movement amplitude & control work

‼️ At MFPT, we focus on improving movement quality, safety, and independence so individuals can continue living confidently and actively. ‼️

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, we would love to help.

Shout out to one of the best PTs I know for the work on this informational, Skylar Roberson PT, DPT.

‼️ SWVA COMMUNITY — neck pain has many different sources ‼️

💥 Cervical Spine Pain: Differential Diagnosis 💥

🔹 Why Proper Identification Matters:
▫️ Neck pain can originate from multiple tissues
▫️ Arm symptoms don’t always mean a “pinched nerve”
▫️ Treating the wrong source = prolonged symptoms
▫️ The right diagnosis drives the right rehab

🔹 Common Cervical Differentials We Screen For:
🔸 Cervical radiculopathy
🔸 Discogenic pain
🔸 Myofascial pain syndrome
🔸 Facet joint dysfunction
🔸 Postural / mechanical neck pain

🔹 Key Findings We Evaluate:
🧠 Symptom distribution (local vs. radiating)
💪 Strength, sensation, and reflex changes
📍 Reproduction of symptoms with repeated movement
🪢 Trigger points & muscular referral patterns
🧍 Postural contribution and load tolerance

🔹 How PT Helps Identify the Source:
▶️ Detailed history & symptom behavior analysis
▶️ Repeated movement testing (McKenzie principles when appropriate)
▶️ Neurological screening
▶️ Targeted cervical mobility assessment
▶️ Red flag screening & referral when indicated

‼️ At MFPT, we don’t just treat “neck pain. We determine what’s actually driving it so treatment is precise, efficient, and effective. ‼️
