Thyroid medication isn’t just about bringing a number into range. It’s about how you feel.
Levothyroxine (Synthroid) is the most commonly prescribed option. It’s synthetic T4, which relies on your body to convert it into T3 (the hormone that actually drives energy, metabolism, and mood). Many patients do well on this alone.
Armour (and other desiccated thyroid options) include both T4 and T3. For some patients, especially those with poor T4→T3 conversion, this can feel like the missing piece. Others may find it harder to fine-tune or less consistent.
Neither is automatically “better.” The right choice depends on:
-How your labs look (T4, T3, reverse T3, antibodies)
-How your symptoms respond
-What feels sustainable long-term
Your thyroid deserves individualized care, not a copy-paste prescription. Let’s create the strategy your body actually needs.
