Jenn here again with another incredibly simple, yet deeply profound Pransky one-liner.

I think most of us operate under the assumption that our thinking is informed, that it's important, that it's trying to tell us something, that if we think it, we should listen to it.

But that's just an innocent misunderstanding of the mind.

Thought is only useful or not useful and the way you determine that is by the feeling it gives you. Did your spirits raise? No? Then let it pass. Something better and more useful will show up if you're not caught in the snare of unhelpful thinking. And the way you can tell if it will be useful to you is, again, by the feeling it gives you. Helpful thinking comes with a better, nicer feeling, it will keep you neutral or raise your spirits, but never bring you down.

Believe it or not, the answer to anxiety, anger, doubt, insecurity, fear and any other uncomfortable feeling that comes your way is simply to do nothing with it. By recognizing it for what it is -- just unhelpful thinking that only ever brings your spirits down -- you can make the split second practical decision, using your free will, to let it pass, not to engage with it, not to use it to build your narrative or your reality in the moment.

And it will indeed pass! Because thankfully, that's the nature of thought. It's ever moving, ever changing, neutral until you grab onto it, just formless energy taking form in your consciousness and then becoming formless energy once again as you let it flow out of your mind.

You get to decide moment to moment what thinking you want to use to build your reality and that's a very beautiful and incredibly hopeful thing.

If you've been taking all your thinking seriously, try only using the thinking that brings a neutral or nice feeling and pitch the rest and see what happens. You've got nothing to lose but a whole bunch of negativity. And what you stand to gain is the life you've been searching for and dreaming of.

Pigeon pose every day… and still NOTHING?
You're not doing anything wrong. Stretching is only half the work.

Stretching the piriformis gives temporary relief β€” it reduces tension in the moment. But if your glutes aren't strong enough to do their job, the piriformis keeps getting overrecruited, gets tight again, and the cycle never breaks.

The missing piece is strengthening.

And not just any strengthening. Bridge pose is the go-to recommendation but it's easy to cheat β€” most people push through their feet, let the hamstrings take over, and the glutes barely show up.

Try locust variations instead. When you're prone and fighting gravity, you can't fake it. The glutes either fire or the leg doesn't lift. Single leg locust, double leg, full locust hold β€” build from there.

The formula is simple:
Stretch to open the range. Strengthen to hold it.
Pigeon isn't wrong. It's just NOT the whole story of how to feel better!

Ever feel like you just can't get a certain pose? That's because there's no one size fits all pose. Ever.

What your body has going on is different than someone else. The right variation means all the difference to the amount of benefit you get from the pose.

Tight hamstrings + tight achilles make this hip opener work best in a seated position.

Rounded shoulders and upper back benefit from being on the floor to not let the spine cheat and round - maximizing the benefit of the stretch of the piriformis, hip rotators, and the hamstrings.

Titled pelvis with flexibility can use a floor variation with guidance about how to bring the pelvis into proper alignment to access those deep hip rotators.

So remember: It's all about you. You win. Not the pose.
