“The first time I heard the word ‘alcoholic’ applied to my father was when I was in the sixth grade. Before that I knew something was wrong, but I didn’t know what it was. It was something of a relief to name the trouble, but I misunderstood the meaning of the word. I thought it meant Dad drank too much, Dad was mean to Mom, Dad did this, Dad did that, and nothing was wrong with the rest of us.”

“Alateen-Hope For Children of Alcoholics,” p. 55

Alcoholism is a disease that affects all members of the family, whether they drink or not. For the family members, it can lead to feelings of hopelessness, loneliness, fear, and blame. In Alateen, teenagers find out that they are not alone and that there are others their age dealing with similar issues. With time they also find different ways to handle their feelings and emotions and how to deal with the difficult situations they may face.

We all know too much screen time isn’t great for us—but a new study just proved how powerful cutting back can be for your mental health.

For three weeks, participants limited their smartphone use to two hours a day. The results?

✅ 27% drop in depressive symptoms
✅ 16% less stress
✅ 18% better sleep
✅ 14% overall boost in well-being

Just three weeks. That’s all it took to see real change.

But here’s the catch: When the study ended, screen time shot right back up.

Our phones are designed to keep us hooked—but the science is clear. Reducing screen time isn’t just good advice, it’s a proven way to improve mental health.

Could you take on the challenge? Try cutting back to two hours a day for three weeks and see how you feel.

Think you could do it? Let us know in the comments!
Tag a friend to take the challenge with you.

Sensory responses can come in many forms . This is a great resource: http://momentousinstitute.org/blog/making-sense-of-sensory-processing

💚Sensory dysregulation refers to a mind or body state which occurs when the body is out of balance due to experiences in the sensory environment.

💛Think about how sounds, textures, exercise, movement, smells, light, and other input can affect your mood.

🧡Sensory dysregulation is the result of either too much or too little stimulation for best functioning or self-regulation.

💗Sensory processing challenges feel can cause one to feel dysregulated more often and have less ability to self-regulate.

Because it is complicated to discern the trigger, it can help to identify how input is impacting the sensory overload...
1. Over Responsiveness
2. Under Responsiveness
