I was listening to a podcast this morning that was discussing domestic violence and the guest speaker stated” it was a very violent relationship but I won’t give details about the violence” why not? I think that’s what’s missing… We keep hearing about domestic violence and people have images in their head of what it could mean well here’s what it means when I look in the mirror… There is a large scar at the end of my right eyebrow, that is the result of being thrown to the floor and having my head stomped on by a 250 pound man wearing steel toed boots. There is a scar over the corner of my left eye that is a result of being grabbed by my hoodie pulled into someone and having a punch land right on my temple… There are three lines above the left side of my top lip, those are a result of being punched square in the mouth and a tooth going through my lip and two other teeth being knocked out, there is a scar on the right side of my torso that is the result of me being thrown into a wall, breaking through the drywall and having nails pierce my side. This is just a few examples of what my domestic violence means. It’s one thing to say I was in an abusive relationship, it’s a whole Other thing to actually know some of the things that happen. And these things are being done by a person that we trust and care about.
