⚠️The difference between anxiety attack and panic attack is super important.
Not just because people tend to think that they are the same thing, but also because people who experience anxiety are at an increased risk of experiencing panic attacks. Knowing the difference between the two can help you better understand your mental health and learn holistic ways to manage or prevent them.
When you make time to practice relaxation techniques like breathwork for example, you’re actually making time to learn how to treat common physical symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks like hyperventilation. 😳
Here’s what I mean…
‼️Anxiety attacks are usually a gradual build up of anticipation by the stressors of life. Common causes are: Worry - distress - fear.
🚨Panic attacks are the abrupt feeling of overwhelm and fear accompanied by physical symptoms of a racing heart, nausea and shortness of breath becoming challenging and difficult to control.
Too many stressors, if left unchecked, will create a cycle of fight flight and freeze in your body’s nervous system.
🔄When you stay in that cycle you might notice you’re sleeping only hours at a time, sick or fatigued most days of the week and avoid places or situations where you think you might be at risk of an attack.
Before you know it, the stress has taken effect on your work, relationships and overall well being. You feel out of control and isolated, or you avoid asking for help.
🛑 Now most people fall into two camps when they seek help for their anxiety-inducing stressors…
They either seek help from psychotherapy or counseling to process stress….OR… prescribed medications from doctors for physical symptoms.
🧘🏻🧘🏻♀️They have no idea that relaxation techniques are even effective and important because we’ve been taught to talk about stress over and over or given medications as a way to numb and not treat the cause of the pain, stress, worry or fear.
