MEASLES MYTHS DEBUNKED!

Myth: Measles is a mild illness.

Truth: Measles can cause severe health issues in children that require hospitalization: About 1 in 5 unvaccinated people will require hospitalization from measles.

Not sure if your child is vaccinated? Check MyChart or call 406-281-8700 to check your child's vaccination status.

The first dose of MMR is usually administered at or after 12 months of age. The second dose can be administered any time one month after the first. Typically, this second dose was given at 4-5 years old as kids were already coming back in for kindergarten vaccines at that age. However, with measles in Yellowstone county, you may choose to talk to your pediatric provider about getting your child's 2nd MMR earlier (as long as it is 28 days after the 1st dose).

Kids as young as 6 months old may receive the vaccine, but will still need 2 doses after they turn 12 months to maintain the best immune response.

We provide sick and well child care for babies, toddlers, kids, and teens!

Children's Clinic Families, if you suspect your child was exposed to measles, call us PRIOR to bringing your child in. We have special protocols in place to provide your child the care they need while limiting the chance they could expose others while being seen. Children's Clinic also installed negative pressure rooms during the pandemic that assist in keeping all of our patients safe when infectious diseases are a concern.

MMR vaccines will be available at Riverstone on Saturday between 9am-1pm for anyone 12 months and older who are NOT symptomatic. The vaccine is covered by insurance or available at no cost if not insured.

The best protection against measles is the MMR vaccine. It has been around for decades and has been proven safe and effective at preventing disease and lessening major complications from the virus.
