At 41 weeks and 4 days, Mama was patiently waiting—trusting her body, trusting her baby, and trusting that labor would begin in its own perfect time. But with each passing day, she also knew she was ready. Ready to meet her baby. Ready to feel those first waves of labor and ride them all the way to that sweet moment of birth. So when she chose to opt in for a membrane sweep, she did it on her own terms—fully informed, fully empowered.
And boy, did that sweep work.
It didn’t take long before contractions came in hot—1 to 2 minutes apart and staying that way for 12 hours straight. No slow build, no gradual warm-up… this was a labor that came in strong and never looked back.
And through it all? Call me the Hip Squeeze Queen—because if there’s one thing that got her through those waves of intensity, it was hip squeezes on repeat. I squeezed until my arms felt like jelly, but she never once wavered. No epidural. No Pitocin. Just pure grit, worship music in the background, and a whole lot of calling on Jesus.
It was in the room and in her plan: “Call on Jesus.”
And she did. Over and over again, between contractions, through every decision point. Her voice was steady, her questions thoughtful. She knew what she wanted, and she made space to hear every option, to take in all the information before moving forward. She advocated like a pro—like a woman who knew her power and her purpose.
Pushing took about an hour and a half. And when the time came? Baby didn’t ease into the world—he shot out like a rocket, catching us all a little off guard. He was bigger than expected, strong and beautiful, a perfect reminder that our bodies truly know what they’re doing.
From coworker to friend… to sister… to Mama Bear.
We were family before—but this birth? This sealed it.
I’ll never forget the sound of worship filling the room, the power of her voice through every contraction, or the sheer strength in her eyes as she brought her baby into the world—on her terms, in her power, surrounded by love.
This is the story of a strong mama, a big baby, and the sacred bond we’ll carry forever.
