Antoine Otto

Mr. Antoine Otto, age 96, of Madison, MS, was called home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ on July 16, in the year of our Lord, 2025.

Mr. Otto was born on August 27, 1928 in Biloxi, MS and was raised there as well. He attended Sacred Heart Academy, along with his siblings throughout grade school. He graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School for boys in Biloxi in 1946 and was a member of the school’s third graduating class.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Rebecca Otto, also of Biloxi and originally from the Middle East; his loving & devoted wife of 46 years, Betty Palmer Otto; sisters Antoinette (Don) Gray of Albany, GA; Elaine (Jerry) LeBlanc of Moss Point, MS; brothers Norman Otto of Gulfport, MS and Brother Joseph Otto, Holy Cross Brother of the University of Notre Dame, IN; and a son, Joseph Antoine Otto.

He is survived by his three adoring daughters, Julie Otto of Indianapolis, IN; Linda (Thomas) Musgrove of Grand Bay AL, and Theresa (Ronald) Wooten of Madison, MS; sister Lillie (Tony) Melone of Bethesda, MD; three grandchildren, Jessica (Joshua) Speights of Madison, MS; Mary Palmer and James Ronald Wooten III of Starkville, MS; great-grandson, André Otto, of Tallahasse, FL; great-granddaughters, Lanie, Toni and Betty; numerous nieces, nephews, dear friends, and his beloved companion and caregiver, Mrs. Peggy Lindsey of Madison, MS.

Antoine loved to tell stories to his family of his colorful childhood in Biloxi. As a young, curious boy, he enjoyed exploring the wooded areas surrounding his family home which was situated behind his father’s general store on Howard Avenue, eating figs from the trees until his belly ached! His curiosity of electricity and the general mechanics of how things worked found him on top of the tin roof of his father’s store, latched onto an electrical wire, unable to break free. Once the neighbors called the electric company and had the electricity turned off to the entire block, his Papa was able to get him down. He feared getting in trouble for the stunt, but his father sat him down in the store and gave him a Barq’s root beer, as he was so happy that his boy was okay! He and his siblings loved to jump off of the city pier and swim out to Deer Island to frolic in the sun and wildness of the untamed island. These adventures led him to become very actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, achieving his revered status of Eagle Scout. He remained an active member of his original Boy Scout troop number 212, throughout his life, even into his 80’s as a camp counselor at Camp Wilkes in Biloxi.

As a second generation “cradle” Catholic, Antoine became deeply involved in the Catholic men’s fraternal organization, the Knights of Columbus, especially in the Pro-Life Movement, as a Fourth Degree Knight. In 1990, he was the acting Pro-Life Chairman for the state of MS. He organized many events benefitting the unborn, such as an annual MS Gulf Coast wide collection drive, distributing all types of items for mothers-to-be in need.

Mr. Otto was a very proud US Navy and Army National Guard veteran. He served in the Navy internationally during the Korean War. As he was eager to serve his country, he enlisted in the Navy shortly after his high school graduation on July 19, 1946. After basic training, he attended Basic Engineering and Motor Machinist courses complimenting his love for anything with working parts. Following these courses, he went on his first tour of duty to the Military Island of Guam, as a Fireman First Class. Next, he was transferred to the USS Thuban, AKA-19, as a Boiler Technician, Third Class.

After being Honorably Discharged to Treasure Island, CA on July 19, 1949, Antoine continued feeding his love of mechanics by purchasing a Harley Davidson motorcycle and proceeded to tour the western states of the US, including CA, WY, NV, and Utah. Along the way he made many lifelong friends who nicknamed him ‘Tony’, for whom his great-granddaughter, Toni, is named.

On September 10, 1950, Mr. Otto was recalled to active duty aboard the USS Manchester, CL-83, until March28, 1952. From May 1952 to July 1953, he attended Northrup Aeronautical Institute in Englewood, CA where he received a certificate of Aircraft Engine Mechanic and was licensed by the Civil Aeronautics Board. From 1954 to 1959, he was stationed and promoted to various other positions revolving around the aeronautical mechanics field.

In September 1959 to June 1963, Antoine relocated his family to Columbus, MS to attend the School of Engineering at Mississippi State University, commencing a family legacy of Bulldog lovers!

From October 1961 to August 1962, Mr. Otto was a member of the 223rd Engineer Battalion of the Mississippi National Guard in West Point, MS, to which he was mobilized for Federal Service due to the Berlin Crisis, serving at Fort Polk, LA.

For the remainder of his career, Mr. Otto worked as a draftsman, designing Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning systems as a contractor for the US Navy. This career move afforded him to take his family to live in different parts of the US, including NY, NJ, MD, and Houston, TX, sightseeing the entire way!

As a lifelong person of health and fitness, Antoine participated in the Senior Olympics in his eighties, winning many Gold Medals for several track and field events including the long jump and all of the dashes.

Antoine’s family meant EVERYTHING to him, as he led them to know Jesus and live a devoted, Christian life! There were not very many functions in which his family participated that he did not attend, always showing his love and support and helping out whenever and wherever needed. “No” was NOT in his vocabulary!

Visitation for Mr. Otto will be held on August 16, 2025 at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Biloxi, his home parish for his formative years, at 10:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin directly after visitation at 11:00 am.

The family would like to offer sincere gratitude to Mrs. Peggy Lindsey for her tireless efforts of additionally enriching the last 10+ years of Antoine’s life. Also, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Knights of Columbus at www.kofc.org

Cynthia Jean Seward Green

Cynthia Jean Seward Green passed away peacefully in her home in Vancleave, MS on August 3rd, 2025, around sunrise, her favorite time of day… a reflection of the sunshine she radiated. Cindy was born in Laredo, TX on April 22, 1959, into a military family. She lived in Okinawa, Japan, Hawaii, and eventually settled in Ocean Springs, MS. Cindy attended MGCCC and earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at The University of South Alabama. In addition to her love for her family, Cindy always had a love for animals. Dogs, Cats, Goats, possums, armadillos, you name it, she loved them all. Another love was an appreciation for art. Charlotte Jean Wilbur Williams

Charlotte Jean Wilbur Williams, lovingly known as “Charlotte” peacefully passed away at home with her children surrounding her on August 1, 2025. A native of Plant City, Florida and a true “Florida Cracker” she was born June 4, 1938, in Lakeland, FL. Charlotte’s early childhood was spent in the community of Coronet Village, located near Coronet Phosphate Industries, a few miles from Plant City, FL where her father served as an Executive. Charlotte often recalled the joy of her early childhood playing with her older brother, Bobby and the many other children “at Coronet” and continued to maintain lifelong friendships formed with her playmates there.

Charlotte later attended Plant City High School, graduating in 1956 as both Class Valedictorian and Head Majorette. Not to stop there, Charlotte went on to Duke University at Durham, NC where she earned a Batchelor’s Degree in Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse. It was while Charlotte was at Duke that she met the love of her life, her beloved Gene. The two met on a blind date and while Gene would famously say on first seeing Charlotte “just one look, that’s all it took” Charlotte was initially not convinced. She refused Gene’s attempt at a second date later saying, “he didn’t ask me the right way.” Gene soon learned of his un-chivalrous first attempt, corrected himself, asked Charlotte “the right way” for a second date and as it is often said, the rest is history. The couple were soon married on April 2, 1960.

Charlotte lovingly and dutifully accompanied Gene to his many AirForce base assignments. Beginning at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, NC the couple would go on to Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH, from there to Bremerhaven, Germany, on to Resse AFB in Lubbock, TX, from there to Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM and lastly to Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS in 1974 where the couple settled in Ocean Springs.

Over their many destinations, one thing was becoming very clear: Children. The couple arrived at Keesler with seven and would have five more in Ocean Springs. A total of twelve, an even dozen comprised of six boys and six girls. Besides Gene, the love of Charlotte’s life was her children. She saw each one of them as a special gift from God and her responsibility to “raise them right” as her vocation. Charlotte filled her house with classical music from Mozart, Beethoven, Bach and Tchaikovsky utilizing all the masters as the base for her children’s musical education. She read bedtime stories from the Brother’s Grimm, Hans Christian Anderson, Peter Rabbit and Dr. Seuss creating a fairy-tale environment where lessons of kindness, forgiveness, morality, right and wrong were taught. Sunday evenings were reserved for family dinners. After dinner she insisted Gene read the children stories from the Bible, with quiz questions to follow. An annual viewing of “The Sound of Music” was mandatory. Employing lessons learned from her dear mother, Elsie, Charlotte’s daughters learned pattern sewing and how to walk with books balanced on their heads, shoulders back, chin raised, for correct posture. Her sons were taught explicitly on the art of asking a young lady out for a date “the right way.” All her children were instructed to “never leave home without looking your best, you never know who you might see.” Through countless sports practices, dance recitals, musical instrument instruction, cheerleading competitions, quiz bowl competitions, and most importantly through her love of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Faith, Charlotte dedicated her life to her children. Her love for children went past the love of her own to her children’s friends. Gene often joked he had just as many “yard children” as he had children of his own. Tragically, Charlotte lost one child, Joseph Robert, at the age of eight in an accident. On hearing the comment “at least she has eleven others” one of her closest friends quickly responded “no, Charlotte has 12 ONLY children!” Oh, how true. The family finds deep comfort in knowing that as Charlotte entered Heaven she was met with Joey’s smiling face, running full speed, leaping into her arms, followed closely by Gene.

Over the years as her children left the nest, Charlotte continued to be active in their lives and the lives of her grandchildren. She and Gene would regularly “make the circuit” travelling to each child’s house to visit. Charlotte also stayed active in her Catholic Faith singing with the choir at Sunday Mass at St. Alphonsus. She also continued her love of music, regularly playing the organ and piano well into her eighties. She will be dearly missed.

Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents, Robert M. Wilbur and Elsie Greene Wilbur of Plant City, FL, her husband, Oscar E. (Gene) Williams, Jr., and her son, Joseph Robert Williams of Ocean Springs.

She is survived by her brother, Robert M. Wilbur, Jr. (Anita) of Punta Gorda, FL, her children, Patricia A. Kendrick (Ron), Linda C. Kasch (Mike), David E. Williams, Jonathan C. Williams (Tara), James H. Williams, Sarah K. Skupien (Walt), Laura E. Williams, Christina M. Valentine (Vince), Timothy A. Williams (Linsey), Rebekah S. Whittenberger (Merrill), Richard F. Williams (Angel), twenty-five grandchildren, two great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 8, 2025 from 11 am to 12 pm, with a 12 pm Mass of Christian Burial at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs. Charlotte will be interred later at Oakview Cemetery in Lowndesboro, AL next to her beloved Gene and Joseph Robert.

Maryann Catherine Luksch Graczyk

Maryann Catherine Luksch Graczyk, age 91, passed away at her home in Biloxi, Mississippi, on Monday, July 28, 2025. Maryann was born August 3,1933, to Matthew Luksch and Anna Spytkowski Luksch in Buffalo, New York during the Great Depression. Maryann’s world was forever changed at the age of 7 when her father unexpectedly died in a tragic accident. There were no social programs at that time that assisted widows, so her mother had to go to work, and Maryann took care of her brother and the household. Maryann began working outside the home at the age of 9 until she was 13, when her widowed mother married John Hoelcle, allowing Maryann the time to volunteer as a Red Cross Grey Lady and as Ground Observer for the Corps for Civil Defense. She also taught dancing at the USO. If that wasn't enough to keep her busy, she also participated in a dozen different clubs at Bishop Colton High School where she graduated in 1951.

After graduation she worked as a waitress until the age of 17 when she began teaching on an emergency basis serving low economic, at-risk students. She fell in love with teaching and was awarded a full scholarship in the Cadet Teaching Corps where she attended D’Youville College in Buffalo, New York.

In June 1957, Maryann married Norbert Robert Graczyk, a member of the USAF, and they were stationed for 12 years at Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware. Maryann became a parent and loving mother in August 1963 with the arrival of a daughter and again in January 1965 with the arrival of a son. During the Vietnam War, Maryann and the kids were separated from Norbert while he was away for 18 months deployed to Okinawa, Japan.

Maryann survived cancer in the mid 1960’s and she endured cobalt treatments, radium implants, and multiple surgeries related to the cancer. She was a three-year survivor of cancer when the family was transferred to Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, in August 1970. In the mid 1970’s she almost died from “aftereffects radiation poisoning.”

Maryann Graczyk was a dedicated educator, labor leader, and community advocate, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment to improving the lives of others. Over her remarkable career spanning more than 50 years, Maryann made significant contributions to education, labor rights, and community development. She served as president of the Mississippi American Federation of Teachers for 20 consecutive years, tirelessly advocating for education reform and workers' rights. Her efforts extended to organizing unions, leading rallies, and drafting legislative bills to improve conditions for educators and workers.

Maryann's passion for community service was evident in her involvement with numerous organizations, including the League of Women Voters, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, and the Red Cross. She was a champion for youth, serving as a 4-H sponsor, Boy Scouts instructor, and Director of Innovative Programs for Children. Her dedication earned her numerous accolades, including the Bene Merenti Papal Medal from Pope Pius VI, Outstanding Elementary Teacher awards in Delaware and Mississippi, and recognition as an Outstanding Woman of Achievement.

A lifelong learner and advocate, Maryann's influence reached national levels, as she was elected Mississippi delegate to Democratic National Conventions in 1980 and 1992 and was invited by President Jimmy Carter to a briefing on inflation and energy. Her commitment to education, labor, and community was unwavering, and her impact will be felt for generations to come. Although she did not win, Maryann also ran for office when she was in her 70’s.

Maryann was quick-witted and had a contagious laugh that could be heard outside the house. She enjoyed traveling and family vacations. She really enjoyed going to the casinos along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and was very generous when she won. Maryann was also very generous with her comps. Maryann enjoyed stamp collecting and coin collecting. She loved black and white movies and musicals. Although she could listen to most styles of music, she especially liked Aerosmith, ZZ-Top, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, and Prince.

On her 75th birthday, she jumped out of an airplane in Poplarville, Mississippi strapped to an extremely handsome young man. There is a DVD for evidence. Maryann was also a proud member of the Senior Citizen Johnny Depp Fan Club.

After her husband's death in August 2008, Maryann began a different chapter in her life by opening and operating a thrift store for three years in Gulfport, Mississippi. Maryann also began painting at the age of 75 by using watercolors and mixed media. She continued her gardening and jigsaw puzzling and spending time with friends from her new church at the Heritage United Methodist Church.

Maryann's life was guided by her faith, as reflected in her volunteer work with Heritage United Methodist Church and her devotion to the teachings of Saint Francis. She lived by the principles of Love, Hope, and Service, inspiring all who knew her. Maryann's legacy is one of compassion, resilience, and dedication to making the world a better place. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched.

Maryann was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert Robert Graczyk; her brother, Matthew Luksch; and her infant great-granddaughter, Vivyan Kimber Davis.

Maryann is survived by her children, Suzanne Marie Graczyk and Norbert John “Buddy” Graczyk; her grandchildren, Joseph Aaron Davis and Chelsea (Santiago) Bello; her great-grandchildren, Nathan Asher Davis, Eden Rose Davis, Evelyn Bello, Marihah Bello, Nyjah Bello, and Marcus Bello.

Our family is grateful for the caring service of Deaconess Hospice that was provided to Maryann over the last year, especially Keshia and Nikki and Chaplain Josh. Also, Maryann could not have gotten through the past three and a half years without the help of her live-in caretaker and son (Norbert John “Buddy” Graczyk) and his valuable assistance and loving daily care.

A private burial will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery where her cremains will be buried alongside her husband of over 51 years.

On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the family will host a Celebration of Life and Memorial at Maryann's church, Heritage United Methodist Church, 4322 Popp’s Ferry Road, D’Iberville, Mississippi at 11:45 a.m. Please note there will be yellow balloons because that is specifically what she requested. Maryann wants there to be joy because she had a long life in which she overcame many obstacles, and through her strong will and faith in God, she would tell you herself that she absolutely loved her life.

Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Maryann Catherine Luksch Graczyk.
