When Laurel and I moved to Gulfport last year this time, we moved into an apartment. For a few reasons, we then bought a house. One reason was to be able foster dogs for rescues as he had done up north since 2017. We contacted the Humane Society of Mississippi, and they recommended Tired Dog Rescue (TDR) at www.tireddogrescue.com.
First know this, TDR is a first rate 501c Certified Nonprofit organization. We have experienced numerous rescues, and TDR tops our list as a rescue of the highest caliber. The executives of TDR are true heroes for what they do.
I focus now on our current foster dog. He is Toby Landon. Toby was rescued after his partner human, a homeless man, was taken from the parking lot they were at, by ambulance to the ER. Toby was left behind and was rescued first by Dr. Alice of Fur Babies Animal Hospital. Dr. Alice contacted TDR, who then entrusted us to be Toby’s foster family. I picked up Toby at Fur Babies, but not before Dr. Alice and her team cleaned up his terribly matted fur.
Toby is estimated to be 8 years old. He is nearly totally deaf and vision impaired. He does not bark at all. He has a mild heart murmur. He is arthritic a lot for his age, but with daily meds, he can get around pretty good. He sleeps a lot, but when he is awake, he follows me around.
Toby loves me to pick him up and sit him on my lap and message his face, mainly his jaws. We take him to the Harrison County Fairgrounds and the dog park there. He can walk one lap around the large dog park. All the other dogs recognize his condition and give him kisses but do not try to have him run and play with them. All the humans at the dog park know Toby and love him like we do.
Toby would make a great addition for a senior couple or single. He is house trained, but here he uses a doggie door to go in and out of the house to our fenced back yard. He is very independent.
Toby is available for adoption and whomever should adopt him will love him instantly like we do.
