"The best way to prevent Lyme disease is to avoid tick bites by wearing repellent and long pants, avoiding tall grass and off trail, and checking skin daily.

To safely and effectively remove a tick, grasp it as close to the skin as possible with tweezers, pull straight up with steady pressure, and avoid twisting or jerking. Clean the bite area and your hands.

Expert tick identification is available for Michigan residents for free through MDHHS. A picture of the tick can be emailed directly to MDHHS-Bugs@michigan.gov."
