Like many in Binghamton, we here at CVAC are horrified and saddened by the violence that took place this week against a vulnerable member of our community -- and make NO mistake, those without stable housing ARE part of our community. Our hearts break for Peter Bennedum and his loved ones right now.
We'd like to remind you that EVERYONE deserves dignity and safety, no matter their race, gender, s*xuality, age, use of substances, level of ability, income level, or housing status. EVERYONE who is the victim of crime deserves respect and help, no matter where they live.
If you -- or anyone you know -- is dealing with abuse, assault, stalking, or any other form of crime, PLEASE remember that CVAC is here. We can help with mental health counseling, help with navigating the justice system and giving support in legal proceedings, and help with relocating or obtaining necessary items to get to a place where you feel safe.
We can sit with victims in our local hospital emergency departments when they present as the result of a crime. We can support families and loved ones in the aftermath of tragedy. We can provide abuse and violence prevention education to children, adults, and the entire community, and so much more.
We also have a 24/7 Crisis Line if you or anyone you know would like to anonymously discuss your options in an unsafe situation, or if like many people, you've witnessed this or any other violent crime and just need someone to talk to:
📱Dial (607)722-4256 for our 24/7 Crisis Line
or
☎️Dial (607)723-3200 for our main office line during regular business hours to schedule services
🚨PLEASE REMEMBER: Dial 911 or another emergency service in the case of an emergency🚨
