This is shared from As a yoga instructor I always end my practice with an ‘inversion’. After a series of sun-salutation, standing and balancing poses, it is always a welcome relief to come down to the floor and not just to give relief to the legs and feet.
Laying down brings the blood rushing back into the internal organs and brain. This effects the parasympathetic nervous system, your hormones and breathing which can reduce anxiety among other benefits. In particular, there are huge benefits to the legs and lower body too… see list on image.
Generally, when I am teaching yoga we are all in the center of a room doing shoulder stand as our inversion as part of an hour+ long class, but here is one you can easily do at home.
Try it for 10-15 minutes. (That’s 3-4 songs if you are listening to music!)

Sunday morning yoga on the deck is possibly my best alone time all week!

If you have taken one of my yoga classes you may have noted that in the intention phase we do a stretching of wrists, hands, feet and calves. It is important to stretch these important muscle and tendon groups. Here is a good article addressing why and how to do just that.
