The Southern Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is made up of registered dietitians, dietetic technicians, and students who live, work, or attend college in the Southern Tier. The range of expertise of our members is wide with members working in clinical care, private practice, education, industry, community agencies and physician offices. Our members are authors, free lance writers, consultants,

speakers, volunteers and practitioners. Our members are passionate about dietetics and leading the field through their work and volunteer activities. As food and nutrition experts, we work to be involved wherever our expertise is needed, especially in the areas of obesity and chronic disease management. Our members are experts in translating the science of food and nutrition into practical solutions and are committed to evidence-based practice and safe, high-quality care. We envision that Southern Tier Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics members will be the most valued source of food and nutrition services. Add Your Support to Ensuring Increased Access to Fruits and Vegetables

Congress increased WIC participants' access to fruits and vegetables during the COVID-19 pandemic through September 30.

Unless Congress takes action, 4.7 million children, pregnant women and postpartum mothers will experience a significant decrease in access to fruits and vegetables.

STAND will be awarding 3 scholarships for student memberships for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (membership year is June 1, 2021 - May 31, 2022). Scholarship recipients will also be given free memberships to STAND for the year, and each recipient will serve on a STAND committee to gain dietetics experience and learn more about the dietetics profession.

Eligibility:
1.Identify as one of the following:
a.Identify as a person of color (African, African American, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Latinx, Caribbean Latinx, Central/South American Latinx, East Asian, Southeast Asian, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern/North African, Indian/South Asian, Native Alaskan, Native American/Alaskan Native)

b.First generation college students

c.Students who were in foster care in high school and/or are still in foster care

-and-

2.Are or will be enrolled in a dietetics or nutrition program at a two or four year program at an undergraduate institution in New York Southern Tier Region (Broome, Tioga, Chemung, Tompkins, or Cortland County)

-and-

3.Will be attending a community college or four year university for 2021-2022.

Requirements if you win the scholarship:
1.You must submit your Academy membership information to the STAND Treasurer by August 1, 2021.
2.You agree to commit a minimum of 3 hours to working on a committee of interest including but not limited to National Nutrition Month, Professional Interest Committee, Membership, and/or Fundraising for STAND for 2021-2022.

Week 3 is all about whole grains and trying to incorporate more of them within your means and preferences! •Whole grains are under the carbohydrate umbrella and include various fibers, phytonutrients, vitamins, and proteins.
•Some examples include: brown and wild rice, quinoa, farro, wheat berries, barley, and oats.
