Hi friends, it’s come to my attention that I’ve not posted here in a really long time and I apologize. Most of you know that I’m a crazy horse girl and that it’s been my dream to merge my passion for wellness with my passion for horses and riding since I first got certified to teach Pilates 10 years ago. The pandemic and the shift online solidified this for me and The Holistic Hive has officially assumed a new name, OM & The Equestrian 🦄 thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your support and being part of this journey with me. I’ve been actively growing O&TE on Instagram and now that we have officially launched, I’ll be growing a page as well for anyone that wants to follow us, you’ll find us at OM & The Equestrian 🙏🏻
Be well,
Natasha

“balancing in yoga + life is a reflection of our inner state. can we dance with change? can we fall + try again with playfulness? do we have the focus, skill, and attunement to find the still point within it all?” - Shiva Rea ✨🧘‍♀️ Join me tonight at 7pm for “deep steep” yin and Thursday at 5:30pm for “slow flow” vinyasa. Hello yogis + friends 🌻🌈☀️ just checking in + giving an update. First, I hope that you all are doing well, staying safe + healthy. I also hope that you’ve fallen into routine, established daily rituals for yourself and are creating space and taking time to ask yourself “what you need” daily. Then honoring yourself and your needs.

I do apologize for not being very active on here. As the seasons change and the weather warms up, I spend most of my time outside and disconnected from the phone/social media.

Despite not being active on here, I am / have been holding class every Thursday at 5:30pm and every Sunday at 7pm. If you’re not on the email list and would like to be, please email me at natashaevef@gmail.com. These classes are donation based and I can be found on Vemno .

I’ve had a lot of recent requests for a Pilates class!!! If you don’t know, before I started teaching yoga, I taught Pilates for 6 years. I’m thinking about adding this to the schedule on Monday nights in June! Stay tuned.

I hope to see you tonight in our zoom class! If not, have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

Big love 💕

Ayurveda 🌿 tongue scraping || one of my favorite + non-negotiable morning practices (followed by lemon/lime + fruit water 🍋🍒). Having a daily routine is one of the most important pillars in Ayurvedic medicine. As the body becomes accustomed to the predictability of doing the same things at roughly the same time each day, the nervous system begins to relax. Adding tongue scrapping to your morning routine is simple + game changing. .
I get most of my Ayurvedic supplies from . That’s where I got this stainless tongue scrapper $7.99 (it’s naturally antimicrobial + tridoshic ((good for all constitutions)). Try to avoid plastic for all the reasons 🌎. .
Why scrape your tongue? Our bodies are constantly exposed to toxins from our beverages, our food + environment 🦠. Scraping clears toxins, bacteria + dead cells. Promotes overall oral + digestive health. Enhances the sense of taste & gently stimulates the internal organs. 🌿✨👅

morning ritual ✨ do you know that we are made up of 80% water? During quarantine, I’ve been diving into my own sacred practices, taking virtual classes + workshops, tending to old wounds that need healing, meditating a lot + reading a lot of books. One book that I highly recommend “Hidden Messages in Water” by Masaru Emoto. If you have limiting beliefs (I think we all do!!) and have a tendency to talk to yourself in a negative way, after reading this book you may think different about that self talk!

His Holiness the Dalai Lama speaks about the coronavirus:

Sometimes friends ask me to help with some problem in the world, using some “magical powers.” I always tell them that the Dalai Lama has no magical powers. If I did, I would not feel pain in my legs or a sore throat. We are all the same as human beings, and we experience the same fears, the same hopes, the same uncertainties.

From the Buddhist perspective, every sentient being is acquainted with suffering and the truths of sickness, old age and death. But as human beings, we have the capacity to use our minds to conquer anger and panic and greed. In recent years I have been stressing “emotional disarmament”: to try to see things realistically and clearly, without the confusion of fear or rage. If a problem has a solution, we must work to find it; if it does not, we need not waste time thinking about it.

We Buddhists believe that the entire world is interdependent. That is why I often speak about universal responsibility. The outbreak of this terrible coronavirus has shown that what happens to one person can soon affect every other being. But it also reminds us that a compassionate or constructive act—whether working in hospitals or just observing social distancing—has the potential to help many.

Ever since news emerged about the coronavirus in Wuhan, I have been praying for my brothers and sisters in China and everywhere else. Now we can see that nobody is immune to this virus. We are all worried about loved ones and the future, of both the global economy and our own individual homes. But prayer is not enough.

This crisis shows that we must all take responsibility where we can. We must combine the courage doctors and nurses are showing with empirical science to begin to turn this situation around and protect our future from more such threats.

In this time of great fear, it is important that we think of the long-term challenges—and possibilities—of the entire globe. Photographs of our world from space clearly show that there are no real boundaries on our blue planet. Therefore, all of us must take care of it and work to prevent climate change and other destructive forces. This pandemic serves as a warning that only by coming together with a coordinated, global response will we meet the unprecedented magnitude of the challenges we face.

We must also remember that nobody is free of suffering, and extend our hands to others who lack homes, resources or family to protect them. This crisis shows us that we are not separate from one another—even when we are living apart. Therefore, we all have a responsibility to exercise compassion and help.

As a Buddhist, I believe in the principle of impermanence. Eventually, this virus will pass, as I have seen wars and other terrible threats pass in my lifetime, and we will have the opportunity to rebuild our global community as we have done many times before. I sincerely hope that everyone can stay safe and stay calm. At this time of uncertainty, it is important that we do not lose hope and confidence in the constructive efforts so many are making.

There is something so magical about fresh snow and the stillness + quietness of the early morning.

If you have the opportunity today, go for a short (or long; whatever your heart desires) walk, observe your breath, notice the sounds that you might hear, the air as it hits your skin. Mindfully + intentionally, take it all in.

Maybe count your breath as you walk, inhale 4 or 5 counts in, pause and hold. Exhale 4 or 5 counts pause and hold. Continue this cycle for a few breath cycles.

Notice how you are feeling, notice if you can soften, then ask yourself how you feeling and what you need today. Listen + ask, then be willing to show up and deliver for yourself.

Don’t forget to reach out if you’re interested in online meditation + yoga 🙏🏻

Happy Thursday yogis + friends ✨❄️🌲 have a beautiful day.

🌿 b r e a t h w o r k 🌿 dirga / three part breath (the three parts being abdomen, diaphragm, and chest). Benefits: 🌿 calms the mind and body, reducing stress + anxiety 🌿 releases muscular tension 🌿 increases oxygen supply to the blood 🌿helps keep the lungs healthy 🌿 promotes full + complete breathing.
Practice: 🌿 take a comfortable seat, take a few breaths to settle in. 🌿 bring your right hand to your belly and left hand to your chest 🌿 full inhale, full exhale 🌿 on the next inhale, allow the breath to start in the belly, feel that area filling, fill into the low back space, draw the breath up to the ribs and then the chest. 🌿 find that pause between your inhale and exhale 🌿 on the exhale start to feel the breath leaving the chest area, the ribs, and then then the belly. 🌿 take a few breath cycles to get comfortable with drawing the breath in at the belly, up through to the chest and exhaling in the reverse chest, ribs, belly. Be easy and gentle with yourself. If you’ve taken even one of my yoga classes, you’ve heard me say “use your breath to help you get comfortable with being uncomfortable (on and off our mats)”. Now is a perfect time to go beyond the asana, so many of us are panicking and (rightfully) concerned with what’s happening with the corona virus and the impacts it’s having on our communities. Our breath work practices can help keep us calm as we are taking in information. And the very best part, you can do this anywhere! If you’re still reporting to work, you can do this at your desk, in the car, while you’re walking, etc. 🌿 If nothing else, let this be a reminder to b r e a t h e.

✨ b a l a n c e ✨ is the key to everything. what we do, think, say, eat, + feel. they all require awareness and through awareness we can grow. our lives have become yang (fast, moving, energizing) dominate, we are always on the run from one thing to the next. when we take time to tune in both our yang and yin (softness, rest, nurturing energy), our light and dark, our masculine and feminine we feel most in ✨balance✨. when we are balanced we remain healthy and productive.
join me on your mats this week to bring some balance into your life ✨.
✨ tonight 5:30pm at the binghamton club.
✨ friday 5:30pm at bing yoga school
