🌟 Strengthening Our Care Through TRUST! 🌟

Our nursing teams recently completed TRUST—a program designed to create a consistent, facility-wide therapeutic milieu where every interaction supports healing and safety.

TRUST equips staff with proven practices that enhance both patient and staff safety, building confidence in preventing and managing crisis situations. The training also integrates essential components from previous OMH programs, ensuring our teams have the skills, competence, and shared framework to deliver the highest-quality care.

So proud of our nurses for their commitment to excellence, growth, and compassionate practice every day. 💙👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

💙 It Takes a Team 💙

The Hancock Fire Department recently celebrated an incredible chain of survival following a sudden cardiac arrest — and highlighted the extraordinary strength of our nursing teams across UHS — and the essential role nurses play from the moment care begins to the moment a patient stabilizes.

Nurse and community leader Boomer played a key role both in the emergency response and in recognizing the many individuals who contributed. At UHS Wilson Medical Center, nurses Gretel, Brianna, and Marlo continued the advanced cardiac and critical care that began in the field.

This save was possible because every link in the chain worked together — dispatchers, firefighters, EMS crews, law enforcement, and hospital teams acting as one coordinated unit:

Emergency Dispatch: Katie, Brianna, Sean
Hancock Fire: Nick, Boomer, Janet, Ralph, Blaise
Upper Delaware / Town of Hancock Ambulance: Mack, Connor, Diana, Joey, Rosalie, Rent
New York State Police: Bryan, Diana
UHS Wilson Medical Center: Gretel, Brianna, Marlo, Scott

🎉 Celebrating Nursing Innovation in New Orleans! 💚💜💚💜

Last week, our amazing nurses Kali and Dawn traveled to the International Stroke Conference in New Orleans, where they presented their work on a powerful new tool for patients: the Stroke Recovery Journal.

📘 What’s the Stroke Recovery Journal?
It’s a collaborative booklet given to every patient admitted with a stroke. Together with their interdisciplinary care team, patients use it to track:
Their stroke risk factors
Signs and symptoms to watch for
Key milestones during their stay
Education and goals tailored to their recovery

Patients then take the journal home, where it continues to serve as a trusted resource - helping them feel more informed, supported, and confident in their recovery. 🧠

We’re incredibly proud of them for sharing our team's work on an international stage!

🌙✨ Magnet in Motion! ✨🌙

Our Magnet Journey doesn’t sleep — and neither do our incredible night‑shift teams! This week, our Chief Nursing Officer and Magnet Program Director joined night‑shift nurses across the hospital for rounding, creating opportunities to connect, listen, and celebrate the exceptional work happening around the clock. 💙

These conversations help bring our Magnet principles to life: nursing excellence, professional engagement, shared decision-making, and a culture that empowers every nurse to shape practice and elevate patient care.

From thoughtful questions to inspiring stories, our night‑shift teams continue to demonstrate the heart of what Magnet is all about. Thank you for your commitment, your voice, and your unwavering dedication — day and night. 🌟

🎉 Celebrating Excellence in Nursing Quality! 🎉
This week, we proudly celebrated our Nursing Quality Champion Awards—special recognitions given each to honor nursing teams who achieve outstanding milestones in our Nurse Sensitive Indicators (NSIs).

These awards shine a spotlight on the unit‑level accomplishments that directly reflect the quality, safety, and compassion our nurses bring to patient care. From reducing hospital‑acquired conditions to improving patient outcomes, these milestones highlight the incredible impact of nursing excellence across our organization. 💙✨

✨ And a truly extraordinary achievement worth spotlighting…
Our ENTIRE Binghamton General Hospital has been CLABSI-free for ONE FULL YEAR!

Isn't being CLABSI free SWEET? 🍭🍬

Just like the sweet treats we delivered to celebrate, this milestone is a delicious reminder of what exceptional teamwork can accomplish. Your commitment makes a difference, and today, we celebrate YOU. 💙👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

❤️ Nurses Wear RED Today… Because Hearts Are Kind of Important ❤️
Our nurses are proudly joining the movement to raise awareness about heart disease—the leading cause of death for women. By wearing red, we’re standing together to shine a light on prevention, education, and the power of early detection.

Here are some of our nurse‑endorsed heart‑healthy tips:
🩺 Move your body — Even if it’s just speed‑walking away from chaos. That counts.
🥗 Eat your veggies — French fries do not count as a vegetable. Yes, we checked.
💧 Hydrate — Coffee is amazing, but it is not water.
😴 Get some sleep — Binge-watching one more episode? Your heart says no.
😂 Manage stress — Laugh, breathe, meditate…or hide in the supply closet for 30 seconds of peace.
❤️ Know your numbers — BP, cholesterol, A1C, the whole lineup. The kind of stats you’d want to hang on the fridge

(Even though the Cath Lab and EP Lab didn’t actually wear red today, we cardio-verted their scrubs into the right color 😄)

Today, we wear red for every woman we care for, every colleague we stand beside, and every friend and family member who needs the reminder: Your heart matters—take care of it.

🌟 Sunshine Award Spotlight! 🌟

Please join us in celebrating Alexandra, our newest Sunshine Award recipient!

Recently, Alexandra was nominated by a colleague in the Emergency Department for the extraordinary compassion she showed to a patient in need. After an injury left the patient’s hair matted, Alexandra took the time to gently comb it out, help them shower, and ensure they felt clean, comfortable, and refreshed during their stay. Her colleague shared, “Alexandra really went beyond expectations to provide patient care.”

This is who Alexandra is - someone who brings dignity, comfort, and kindness to every moment. Thank you for shining so brightly for our patients and our team. ✨💛

🎉 Congratulations, Alexandra! Your compassion makes a difference each day. 👏

🎉 Celebrating Innovation in Nursing! 🩺

📊 Our Nursing Unit Councils proudly showcased their Quality Improvement (QI) posters last week, highlighting projects that have driven positive change over the past year.

Unit-based QI projects are essential because they empower frontline teams to identify opportunities, implement evidence-based solutions, and continuously improve care. These initiatives lead to better patient outcomes, enhanced safety, and a stronger culture of excellence across our organization. 🌟

👏 Huge thanks to all our nurses for your dedication to quality and innovation! 💙

💚 The Grinch tried to steal Christmas, but his plans were thwarted! 🎄

On Christmas Eve, Cindy Lou Who, Santa, Mrs. Claus, and even the Grinch made their rounds, visiting staff and patients and spreading smiles, laughter, and plenty of holiday cheer.

And don’t worry—when the Grinch’s heart grew three sizes, we had it checked. No cardiomegaly here—just pure holiday spirit! 😂❤️

🌼DAISY Award🌟

Congratulations to Jennifer, our latest DAISY Award recipient. Jennifer works on South Tower 3, one of our cardiac telemetry units. Her compassion and quick thinking embody what nursing is all about. While off shift on the unit, she helped a family member of a patient who was visiting by stepping in, engaging with empathy, and de-escalating a stressful situation, bringing calm to everyone involved.

Another family member wrote, "She was a great interactive listener and showed genuine interest in him."

This moment reminds us that nursing isn't just about caring for the patient while they are in the walls of a hospital. It's about supporting the entire network around them, including family members. Jennifer's actions reflect the heart of nursing: compassion, connection, and holistic care. 💚

👏 Help us congratulate and thank Jennifer for making a difference when it mattered most! 🥳
