🚨 A reminder during this National Preparedness Month 🚨

When you call 911, emergency responders need to be able to get to you—fast. That’s only possible if your property is accessible.

Homeowners and property owners have a responsibility to maintain safe access for fire trucks and ambulances:
âś… Keep driveways wide, stable, and clear of obstacles.
âś… Trim back low-hanging branches and encroaching trees.
âś… Ensure your address numbers are clearly visible from the road.
âś… Remove yard clutter that blocks access.

Narrow driveways, unmaintained gravel, and overgrown trees don’t just slow us down—they can prevent us from reaching you in time.

Maintaining your property isn’t just upkeep. It’s a critical step in protecting your family, your home, and your community.

Last night, our crew had the opportunity to train with Bill Fish, salesman from Industrial Safety, Inc. and Fire Chief at the Dairyland Volunteer Fire Department. Bill brought the Genesis 17C-SL3 EFORCE Combi-Tool, which can both spread and cut during an extrication process.

The Birchwood Fire Department currently uses a Genesis Cutter and Genesis Spreading Tool, so this was a great chance to compare tools, refresh our skills, and get some valuable hands-on training.

A big thank-you to Bill for sharing both his knowledge as a firefighter and his expertise with the tools he represents!

đźš‘ Ambulance Replacement Fundraising Update đźš‘

Our thermometer is climbing—and it’s all thanks to YOU! Since our last update, we’ve been honored to receive several generous donations that continue to push us closer to our goal.

A special thank you goes out to the Mikana Parade Committee and our local Birchwood American Legion Post #379 for their incredible support. 💙 We are also deeply grateful to the many community members who have stepped forward with personal donations—every contribution makes a difference.

📊 As of today, we’ve raised $242,964 toward our total goal of $385,000!

From our golf outing, bake sale fundraising, and individual gifts, your generosity is helping us replace our aging 1999 E-350 Road Rescue Ambulance with a new, safer, and more reliable unit. Your continued support allows us to respond effectively and keep our community safe in times of need.

đź’™ Want to help us reach the top of the thermometer?

Visit bfcesd.org/2026ambulancereplacement/ to learn more or donate online. In-person donations can also be made at Dairy State Bank in Birchwood.

Thank you for standing behind us—we're proud to serve you!

Among the calls for service this morning, we are especially grateful for strong agency collaboration. The BFCESD would like to express a sincere thank you to the Shell Lake Fire Department for responding to a scene with us — your manpower and apparatus support were greatly appreciated. We would also like to thank the City of Rice Lake Fire Department for their support on an additional call during this time. Teamwork like this makes a difference for our communities.
