Alabama’s medical cannabis program restricts certification for medical ma*****na to patients with one or more of 16 qualifying medical conditions. To obtain certification, a doctor must evaluate the patient and verify that the patient has a qualifying condition. More and more studies are being published that demonstrate medical ma*****na is effective in reducing the use of chronic opioid use for pain. In light of the opioid addiction and overdose epidemic, these research results are going to be practice-changing in Alabama once medical ma*****na is available.

For those interested, the most recent one that I saw last week is “Medical Cannabis Used as an Alternative Treatment for Chronic Pain Demonstrates Reduction in Chronic Opioid Use – A Prospective Study” by Benedict et al, published in the Pain Physician Journal.
