📣📣 One Beautiful Big Bill Act📣📣

✅ What does it mean for mental health services and addiction services?

🛑It means that millions of people receiving mental health services & substance abuse services through Medicaid & Medicare would ultimately not have access to those services. With people on Medicaid taking the biggest cuts to services.

✅ What can I do?

🎗️You can continue to support organizations like NAMI as they continue to advocate for individuals with mental health needs.

✍🏽You can call, write or email your Senator, Representative and Congressman

💰 You can continue to donate to organizations that help to fill in gaps of coverage expenses for people with little to no income.

✅ What can I do as a Mental Health Professional?

💡You can begin developing a plan that can help fill in the gaps such as offering sliding scale or free services to individuals.

📚You can educate your patients on how the passing of this bill will affect their coverage and develop a care plan that’s right for them.

💚 You can stop public panic and distress by providing hope and support to the community.

🤝You can collaborate with other professionals to provide more cost efficient services collectively. What your patients need the other provider may be able to offer and vice versus.

🙏🏾Together we can fill in the gaps, bring awareness and provide the quality care people need. It may look slightly different but it’s not impossible!!! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! 💚

Day 1: Let’s talk about Triggers

A trigger is anything (person, place or thing) that causes you to feel a certain emotion. Your emotional reaction to that trigger can be either positive or challenging (I don’t like to say negative)

When you encounter something that triggers a challenging intense emotion in you, it is important to do 3 things:
1. Recognize what triggered you
2. Get in a safe space
3. Ask for help (Talk to a safe person that supports you)

The best way to overcome challenging triggers is to talk about it even if you don’t know all the words to say. We can’t heal from what we refuse to confront. Darkness cannot overpower the LIGHT!💡 Triggers remain powerful when we dont address them.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Personal Growth Homework: Grab your journal📝 or use the notes app in your phone….Make a list of things that you feel triggers intense emotions in you and then for each trigger identify something healthy you can do to push through that trigger!

There is freedom in transparency! We Got This 💪🏽🙏🏾💚

Reflection:

Today, reflect and focus on gratefulness. It is often easy to focus on what’s not going well but take a moment to reflect on the positive things in your life! Write it down and whenever feelings of doubt, worry, anxiousness arise pull your list out and let light outshine the moment of darkness!

If you say hey I don’t have anything going on that’s positive then make your list of how you would like things to be. If you can name it, you can accomplish it! Get busy, you are one action away from success!!!

"He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,"
Colossians 1:13 NKJV

Recovery Prayer of the Day: God bless the person suffering with substance use disorder today, that you bring them out of the darkness of addiction into the Light of your Kingdom and surround them with your love.
