Most of our expectations assume that others—especially family members—see, think, and feel the same way we do. Many times we don’t even know we had expectations until they aren’t met because most of the time our expectations reside in our subconscious. Letting go of our expectations and instead embracing appreciation is a mindful, conscious practice. When we are focusing on our own intentions and cultivating gratitude, we are able to shift from disappointment to a more fulfilling perspective.

This is your reminder that self-care is important, in fact, it is essential. What does your self-care routine look like?

Taking a walk outside.
Curling up with a good book.
Exercise regularly.
Eating healthy.
Meeting with a counselor or mentor regularly.

These are just a few things that you could add to your self-care. Remember that you can’t help others or care for others unless you take care of yourself.
