What’s the deal with prolactin?
It is the hormone responsible for milk production in breastfeeding moms... and its levels actually fluctuate throughout the day.
During the day, prolactin levels gradually decrease, reaching their lowest point in the early to mid-evening hours. This means your milk supply might feel a bit less abundant as the day goes on. But don’t worry! This is completely normal and natural.
Conversely, prolactin levels peak during the night and early morning hours (like 2-6AM), which is why your little one might seem more eager to nurse during these times & your b***s may feel more full.
Night wakings and cluster feedings can feel overwhelming, but they’re a natural part of breastfeeding. These frequent feedings help stimulate prolactin production and boost your milk supply to meet your baby’s growing needs. So if your baby is waking up often at night or seems to want to nurse constantly in the evening, know that this is normal and part of the natural rhythm of breastfeeding.
Your body is amazing and is responding perfectly to your baby’s needs.
