Medicine for the Melanated and Misguided

Medicine for the Melanated and Misguided A podcast focused on reducing the stigma associated with mental health in the black community!

📢💔 We love to say “mind your business”… until it’s someone else’s heartbreak. Whether it’s Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson or people in your own circle, breakups are already hard… now imagine healing while being judged, analyzed, and picked apart in real time. Not every story needs your narrative. Watch to find out the most mature thing you can do…

👪😞 We talk about domestic violence like it only affects the adults involved, but children are always in the room, whether we acknowledge it or not. Black children are disproportionately exposed to violence in the home, and the impact doesn’t end in childhood. It follows them into adulthood. After tragedies like Shreveport, we ask “how did this happen?” But we don’t ask what those children may have been living through long before.

🛬🏠 We talk a lot about wanting a “village”… people who show up, support us, and have our back. But let’s be honest, the truth is…we don’t just find community. We help create it. Let’s stop only asking “where is my village?” and start asking, “how am I contributing to one?”

👩‍👩‍👦‍👦 ⚓️ While everybody is posting “my people would come save me”, you're sitting there realizing you don’t have that kind of support right now. And instead of feeling inspired, it feels isolating. Let’s normalize this: not having a strong village in this season is NOT a personal failure. Just because you don’t have it right now doesn’t mean you won’t ever have it. Until then, we build, we heal, and we give ourselves the grace we deserve. 🖤

🧘🏾‍♀️😌 Stress will show up, but how you respond makes all the difference. From daily check ins to setting boundaries and even considering therapy, these are real, practical ways to protect your peace. You don’t have to carry everything alone. This Stress Awareness Month, choose you.

💸🤯 Financial stress hits different when you’re carrying more than just your own weight. In the Black community, it’s not just about money. This Stress Awareness Month, we’re naming it, normalizing it, and reminding you that your mental health matters just as much as your bank account. You are not alone, and you are not your financial situation.

Late post but I had a birthday to celebrate 🎉♈️ And honestly… I needed that pause.
But let’s talk, because too many of us are walking around exhausted, calling it “normal.” For a lot of us, it’s deeper than habits… it’s survival mode, anxiety, and a nervous system that never gets a break. So I’ll ask you again. Are you actually resting, or just used to being tired?

Chapter 32: still fine, still growing, and finally collecting on everything I prayed, worked, and cried for 😌✨. I thank God for the lessons, the blessings, and the grace. Because whew, He knew I needed ALL of it to get here. I’m learning, healing, evolving, and yes, enjoying the fruits of my labor like they’re long overdue 💅🏾. For my birthday, my only ask is simple. Show your girl some love by following Medicine for the Melanated and Misguided and Dr J & G Reviews. And tell a friend too! It means the world to me, and I don’t take any of your support for granted. Happy Birthday to a Queen! 😘 🤍🎉

😴🛏 Insomnia isn’t just about being tired. It’s deeply connected to mental health. In Black communities, higher rates of poor sleep and lower access to treatment make this an even bigger issue. This National Sleep Awareness Month, we’re breaking down the connection and why it matters.

🧩👷🏾‍♀️ Having support on paper doesn’t always mean having access in real life. From therapy to IEPs and 504 Plans in schools, to employment through vocational rehabilitation, individuals with developmental disabilities still face major gaps in care and opportunity, especially in Black communities.

03/17/2026

🧩📚 Developmental disabilities affect millions of people, but conversations about diagnosis, support, and mental health disparities in the Black community are still limited. During Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, we’re raising awareness and starting the conversation. Come back later this week as we talk about accessibility in therapy, work, and school.
