Cemetery Girl Problems and Other Serious Conversations of Perpetual Light. “Honoring lives, guiding families with compassion and a sometimes putting the fun in FUNeral”

WHY I DO WHAT I DO

Growing up in the vibrant town of Hueytown, Alabama, and presently residing in picturesque Chilton County, I have been fortunate to witness the power of community and the importance of service firsthand. My name is Tanya Summerlin, and my life's calling has led me on a remarkable path of protecting families and serving the communities I hold dear. As a former Active Duty Air Force veteran, my dedication to helping families plan for the inevitable has always been more than just a job; it is a profound way for me to continue serving those around me since leaving the military in 2002. From an early age, I felt a deep-rooted desire to protect and support others. This innate calling led me to join the Air Force, where I discovered my passion for ensuring the well-being of those around me. During my time in the military, I gained invaluable experience, and developed an unwavering sense of duty that would shape my future endeavors. Following my honorable discharge from the Air Force, I knew that my journey of service was far from over. I realized that I could make a meaningful impact in my community by utilizing my expertise to assist families in planning for their future. For me, this was not just a career transition; it was a continuation of my calling, an opportunity to extend my service to the communities I call home. In my role as a Family Service Counselor and Pre-need Advisor, my commitment to my client families is an unwavering one and I strive to understand their unique needs, ensuring they have a comprehensive strategies in place should a death occur. Approaching each case with meticulous attention to detail and empathy, I understand the weight of the decisions families face and the desire to protect their loved ones. By providing compassionate guidance rooted in both industry expertise and personal understanding, I aim to alleviate the stress and uncertainty that often accompany such important decisions. My dedication to service extends far beyond my professional responsibilities. I actively engage in community outreach programs, volunteering my time and expertise to organizations that support veterans, military families, and underserved communities. These initiatives not only honor my military roots but also allow me to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most. By investing in my community, I hope to create a lasting impact and educate those on the importance of having a plan in place. As I reflect on my journey from an active-duty Air Force veteran to a dedicated community servant, I am grateful for the experiences that have shaped me. Growing up in Hueytown and presently residing in Chilton County, Alabama, I have witnessed the strength of community bonds and the transformative power of service. Through my chosen career path, I have found a way to combine my passion and unwavering commitment to service. As I continue to assist families in planning for the future, I am humbled by the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of those around me. My hope is that my compassion, empathy, and a commitment to ensuring families are prepared and protected for generations to come.
