Mckelvey and Schwertz had the honor of speaking to earlier this month educating about the importance of regular eye exams for children and methods to protect their eye health. Our doctors and staff had the pleasure of hosting an educational dinner on July 23rd in honor of Dry Eye Awareness Month 🤓💧We enjoyed connecting with our colleagues and sharing information about the latest technologies and treatments! Special shoutout to for spending time in house rolling the delicious sushi and preparing the Thai food! Thank you to all who came — we loved spending the night with everyone!

Six weeks flies by when you’re learning a lot and having fun while doing it! Our office had the honor of having with us for her first externship. Better a day late than never, right?! Yesterday we celebrated the best boss man there is, Dr. Franklin! (Easy to be the best “man” at the practice when you’re the only man at the practice! 😜) All joking aside, us ladies appreciate you and everything you do for us, the patients, and the practice! Your leadership, kindness, and genuine concern for the well-being of our team/patients does not go unnoticed. It’s a privilege to work under someone who supports and encourages a healthy work life balance and the importance of family! Happy “day late” Birthday!

Today we said a bittersweet goodbye to our student extern, .l.gibson. She officially finished her last day of clinic and formal education with us! We are so proud of her and her classmates for their accomplishments the last 4 years of optometry school. Madison, we wish you the absolute best as you start your career in Louisville, KY. Congratulations to the class of 2025! 🎓

Our doctors and staff had a wonderful time with the UAB School of Optometry Private Practice Club last night! This year, we hosted a Q&A and no question was left off the table. Drs. Franklin and Schwertz, as well as our office manager Haley, fielded questions ranging from private practice, salary negotiations, residency advice and more. We enjoyed spending the evening with such an inquisitive group of students! Best of luck to you all — the future looks bright for optometry! 😎
