happy mother’s day to all. to new moms. to wise moms. to those without moms. to those with many moms. to moms have yearn to be a mothers but haven’t yet experienced it. to moms who have mothered children that they didn’t birth and raise. happy mother’s day to the mothers who have raised me— the ones that birthed me, the ones that raised me, and the ones and that still care for me, even though I am not their own.

Those first few moments. Recognize what you just did. Allow all the emotions to come (ALL of them, even if they aren't what you expected). This is allowed to be sacred time. It's also allowed to be weird, uncomfortable, emotional, messy. It's allowed to be whatever it is, but you deserve the space for it to be what it needs to be.

Birth isn't always peaceful. It's almost never clean. It's not easy or insignificant. Birth carries the weight of all the generations before you and all the generations to come. I don't think this is a light thing to carry; I don't think it's supposed to be. Perhaps this is why we are so temped to run from it. To schedule it. To control it. Because when you look at all that birth is, the natural instinct is to doubt yourself, to ask, "Really? Me?". Yes, you. But not alone, you have your ancestors, you have your future generations, and they carry the weight with you. And right now, it is your turn. And you are strong enough for this messy, powerful, significant birth.
