Meet Garrett Bass, one of our Primary Therapist at our PHP and IOP program. Here is a little bit about Garrett!

I work in this field because I know how hard it is to feel misunderstood and alone, and it’s my hope that I can help others feel seen and heard wherever they are in their journey. I also know that eating disorders thrive in the dark, and I want to play a role in reducing the shame and secrecy that keep eating disorders alive. I work at Alsana because I believe in the team that I serve alongside and the guiding principles that we claim, and the empathy and care that I’ve seen radiate from other Alsana staff is something that has inspired me from my very first day.

If you ever want to talk coffee, I’m your guy. I’ve been roasting my own coffee for the past few years and have loved learning more about the history and economics of coffee farming. If I wasn’t a therapist, I like to think I’d be on my way to owning and operating a cozy little coffee shop.

Meet Jessica Burleson, our Lead Dietitian at our PHP and IOP programs.

1. What I love about working at Alsana is the compassionate and individualized care that we give our clients. We put our clients first in their recovery process and I also love our nutrition philosophy and the permission it gives individuals to heal through nourishment!
2. If you are struggling, it's okay. It can be easy to spiral into hopelessness and shame for struggling but it's actually a part of the recovery process. There is no growth without struggle. My ask is that you let someone into your struggles whether it's family, friends, or your treatment team! You got this and you are so strong!
3. I had 3 pet Gerbils growing up and named them all Gerbie 🙃

Sometimes recovery can feel like everyone just telling you to stop hurting. Recovery isn't about not having hurt or pain, instead it's about how to move in and out of all different experiences, joy, calm, pain, peace, etc. Your body does not have to continue to be the representation of the pain and hurt you hold.

1. What do you love about working at Alsana?
It is one of my greatest honors to walk alongside clients in quite possibly one of the darkest seasons of their lives. It is humbling that they want us to be a part of their recovery journey. I also get the privilege of training and supporting our clinicians to grow in their clinical expertise and creativity in seeing new perspectives as they treat clients who are all entirely unique.

2. What is something you would tell someone that is struggling right now?
You are deserving of support and recovery. Allow others to hold hope for you in a dark season and never forget that you are capable of doing hard things.

3. What’s a fun fact about you?
I have traveled to 5 continents and I love to box!

1. What do you love about working at Alsana?
I love the people I work with! I couldn’t do this without them. We have such a great staff (RTC and PHP) who care so much about our clients and each other which makes work a place a look forward to coming to!

2. What is something you would tell someone that is struggling right now?
I would tell someone who is struggling right now that it makes so much sense why you would be struggling. Your eating disorder has served a very real and important function in your life! Let's honor that it has, but let's also see that there is a very full life awaiting you outside of your eating disorder! How can you make the next (sometimes very small) step in the direction recovery? Ask for help; take a bite of that snack; give your body the rest its asking for. Whatever it may be, choose to take one step towards recovery!

3. What’s a fun fact about you?
I love to travel! I'm always itching and looking for the next trip. I have been to 10 different countries, and I love learning all the history of each new place!

Sometimes something new, like recovery, feels "unsafe". New foods, new feelings, all the new gets put in this bucket of "unsafe". When we slow it down though it is actually just unfamiliar. A lot of times we don't know how to tolerate the uncertainty in unfamiliar, but it is something that we can learn. It won't always feel like this if you keep moving forward. Eventually the unfamiliar will be just that.

The journey of recovery isn't an easy one, but it is so worth it in the long run. Sometimes we dream if only this could have been different or if this could have happened then things would be different. In the dreaming we can forget that we are able to work on the story in front of us. It's never perfect or free of pain or rainbows and butterflies, but it is our story to tell and it is beautiful.

Meet Kaley Ann Fulton, our Program Director, at Fitzgerald RTC. Here's some info about Kaley Ann!
"My favorite part about my job is the people—both clients and staff. I love connecting with clients and supporting them in their brightest and darkest moments. And the staff is phenomenal. It is a joy to work with so many people who have a passion for helping others! 2. For those who are struggling, reach out for help. Asking for support does not make you a failure. One of our primary therapist, Stephanie Schell facilitated a psycho education & the brain group today at Fitz. They reviewed what they’ve been learning about the brain and talked about their favorite/most adaptive functions of our brains and then did an artistic representation of that. Some clients discussed how our brains rewire. Some talked about how the different areas of the brain function to help us experience life more fully and some talked about neuroplasticity and healing capacity of the brain.
