UAB School of Nursing alumna and cardiac nurse Jesslynn McGinnis made a lasting impact on those she cared for. Diagnosed with cardiomyopathy at just 16 years old, Jesslynn used her health challenges as motivation to pursue a life of purpose. She embraced nursing as her calling and, despite ongoing health challenges, remained committed to her studies and to the patients she hoped to serve.

To honor her life and dedication to caring for others, her family and friends established the Jesslynn McGinnis Endowed Memorial Nursing Scholarship, ensuring her legacy continues to uplift the next generation of UAB nurses.

The UAB School of Nursing DNP Nurse Anesthesia Pathway has experienced remarkable growth over the past decade! With 65 students enrolled this year and another 65 expected in both 2026 and 2027, the program is expanding its capacity and directly addressing the national shortage of CRNAs by preparing skilled anesthesia providers to meet workforce demands.

Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Family, Community and Health Systems Loretta T. Lee and alumnus Larry Z. Slater will be inducted at the 2025 NLN Education Summit in September.
