UABSON Associate Professor Emma Kay hopes to prevent overdoses and deaths through education about, and distribution of, an affordable solution. As part of this effort, she is co‑leading a six‑year, $5.3 million grant from The National Institute on Drug Abuse - NIDA to conduct the first national, fully remote trial assessing whether individuals with a substance use disorder can reduce fentanyl overdose risk by testing a substance before using it.

Health care professionals in solid organ transplant programs are invited to join us next month for the 2026 Interprofessional Transplant Conference.

Co‑hosted by the UAB Comprehensive Transplant Institute, the UAB School of Nursing and the Alabama Chapter of the International Transplant Institute, this symposium will provide transplant‑focused education that participants can apply directly in their practice to improve care for solid organ transplant patients.

Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses (coordinators and staff RNs), pharmacists and social workers in solid organ transplant programs are encouraged to attend.

We are so proud of our SNA students for representing our school at the NSNA Convention last week and showing off their nursing knowledge! Their chapter earned first place in the Nursing Tournament for Patient Safety after answering a series of increasingly challenging NCLEX‑style questions.
