Continuing the celebration of the UAB School of Nursing’s 75th anniversary, the School of Nursing Archives team has unveiled a new permanent exhibit honoring the School’s first five deans: Dr. Florence Hixson, Dr. Marie O’Koren, Dr. Rachel Booth, Dr. Doreen Harper, and Dr. Maria Shirey.

Now on view in the School of Nursing's Nightingale Gallery, this exhibit highlights the lasting impact of these visionary leaders through rare artifacts and personal memorabilia—some on display for the very first time. Highlights include the typewriter (circa 1950s) used by Dean Booth during her days as a nursing student, and a collection of items from the early UAB Basketball era, shared by longtime fan Dean O’Koren.
