November will soon be here when we focus on Eye Donation Month. This year's theme is Everyday Heroes. In addition to willing donors and donor families who offer the invaluable gift of sight, it takes a community of staff, surgeons, vendors, and more to insure we are able to restore sight to as many individuals as possible. Our work depends on the safe, timely, and reliable services of vendors like KTI Express Courier, who partner with us to safely transport corneas from Huntsville to Birmingham. Advancing Sight Network was proud to be part of the Magic City Classic this past weekend! 🏈✨ Our team had the opportunity to share the life-changing message of organ, eye, and tissue donation with fans from Alabama State University and Alabama A&M University. We loved connecting with fans at The Classic to spread awareness about donation facts and inspire others to say yes to donation. 💙💚

August is National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month! Diversity in donation is essential as researchers work to find treatments for blinding eye diseases. A more diverse group of donors can lead to more cures and therapies that are safe for everyone. Advancing Sight Network's Southern Eye Bank has created a video sharing the importance of education and donor registration among all populations.

Happy Nurses Week! We are grateful for our partnership with nurses throughout our network. The donation process is dependent on the work of these caring, hardworking, and compassionate partners.

Nurses are often the first to talk with a family about donation during one of the most difficult moments in their lives. They also call our referral coordinators to initiate the donor process—an essential first step in giving the gift of sight.

Thank you, nurses, for playing such an important role in honoring the wishes of donors and bringing hope to recipients. Your compassion and dedication make miracles possible.

2025's Donor Dash was a great success! The rain held off enough that no one was soaked, donors were honored and celebrated, recipients expressed gratitude for the gifts they have been given, and the importance of donation was highlighted. It was a wonderful way to bring Donate Life Month to a close! Thanks to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported this year's event.

It’s been a meaningful Donate Life Month! Today, on Donor Remembrance Day, we honor those who gave the gift of life through organ, eye, and tissue donation. Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham held a flag-raising ceremony with participants including cornea recipient, Heather Reed, (holding the heart in the photo), and Kristin Beauchamp, whose son Patrick was a cornea donor (she's pictured by the hospital sign). We're so grateful for Patrick and the choice he made to be a donor. His final act of service, as a donor, gave two people restored sight. We’re grateful to Heather and Kristin for regularly sharing their stories, and telling others about the gift of donation. Register as a donor today at registerme.org.
