Congratulations to Teresa Ham, Advancing Sight Network's Administrative Executive Lead, who won the 2025 Trey Schwab Coaching Legacy Award at the Donate Life America annual conference in Ft. Worth last week. The Trey Schwab Award is presented annually to a professional in the field of donation and transplantation who is recognized as a coach and trusted advisor by their colleagues, and who has furthered the collective work of Donate Life America and Donate Life State Teams.
The award is named in honor of the late Trey Schwab, a double lung recipient and former Marquette University basketball assistant coach. Trey worked tirelessly for more than a decade to promote donation and was a friend and mentor to his colleagues in the professional Donate Life Community. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor, Teresa!

Last week, the Advancing Sight Network team took time to pause and reflect together in honor of Eye Donation Month. We were deeply moved to be joined by two special donor families whose stories remind us why our mission matters so much.

Kyle Mavin, Operational Executive Lead at Advancing Sight Network, attended with one of his daughters and grandson as we officially dedicated the beautiful donor memorial wall the Mavin family gifted to our organization. The wall honors Christin Mavin—beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cornea donor—whose choice to be a donor brought the gift of sight to two others.

We were also honored to welcome Kristin Beauchamp, mother of Patrick Higgins, a cornea donor and veteran. Kristin received a community service award through her company, Lockton, and chose Advancing Sight Network as the recipient of the accompanying grant. Her generous gift allowed us to purchase cell incubators for the Precision Ocular Biobank and to dedicate a memorial wall in Patrick’s honor last April.

On this Veterans Day, we’re especially grateful for heroes like Patrick—who served his country—and for donor familiies like these, who continue to inspire hope through the gift of donation.

So happy that Southern Eye Bank was able to coordinate this donor family and recipient, sharing their inspiring story yesterday in New Orleans. It is a beautiful story born out of tragedy that has become
a powerful reminder of hope and the healing power of generosity.

Start the first full weekend of Eye Donation Month with this lovely story from Southern Eye Bank, part of Advancing Sight Network.

An emotional donor father recalls taking his 16-year-old daughter, Ramsey, to the DMV for her first driver's license, when she told him her decision to be an eye, organ, and tissue donor. Sadly, two years later, after a tragic car accident, that same father made Ramsey's decision was followed, and she became a cornea donor hero.

This generous donation gave the gift of sight to a man suffering from keratoconus. Recently, the donor family and recipient met in person and formed a deep bond. Now, they are all committed to preserving Ramsey's legacy as an "Everyday Hero", spreading awareness about eye donation, cornea, transplantation, and donor registration.
