Incredibly grateful for funders like The Caring Foundation who help us do this important work!

🤰 BirthWell Partners: Community Doula Project is improving maternal and infant care across Alabama. Thanks to a grant from The Caring Foundation, BirthWell was able to connect Emily, a doula, with a client so Emily could advocate for her throughout the birth process and while bonding with her child. Here’s what the client had to say:
“Emily's presence changed everything during my third trimester. She talked to my OB-GYN with knowledge. She kept me informed and helped me advocate for my needs… Emily… made me feel welcomed and also supported my holistic health approach.”

Our next topic in our series is Breast Engorgement 🤱

Breast engorgement often happens when your milk first comes in or when feedings are delayed, causing your breasts to feel overly full, swollen, firm, or even painful. While it can be uncomfortable, it’s temporary, and there are ways to find relief. Quick relief tips include:

➡Frequent feeding – Nurse often to help empty the breasts.
➡Hand expression or pumping – Release just enough milk for comfort if baby isn’t ready to feed.
➡Gentle massage – Lightly massage toward the ni**le before and during feeding.
➡Warm compresses before feeding – Helps milk flow more easily.
➡Cold compresses after feeding – Reduces swelling and soothes discomfort.
➡Supportive bra – Comfortable (not tight) support can ease soreness.
