Pediatric ENT Associates is a group of five doctors specializing in diagnosis and treatment of a full range of pediatric ear, nose, and throat conditions. Some of the specialties of Pediatric ENT Associates in Birmingham include cochlear implants for children with profound hearing loss, treatment of vascular malformations and congenital ear deformities, placement of myringotomy tubes for children with recurrent ear infections, and endoscopic sinus, tonsillectomy, and adenoidectomy surgery. Pediatric ENT Associates have the use of the Children’s of Alabama hospital as well as an outpatient center conveniently located near the hospital in central Birmingham.
Each Pediatric ENT Associates doctor regularly publishes in peer-reviewed medical journals, as well as gives lectures both regionally and nationally. Dr. Woolley is conducting an ongoing research study about the effects of cochlear implants on the daily lives of children who have had the surgery, including how they perform at school and at home.
Dr. Brian Wiatrak is the director of Pediatric Otolaryngology at the prestigious Children’s of Alabama hospital. Dr. Wiatrak received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, and completed his internship and residency at the University of Cincinnati Hospital. He completed a fellowship at Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, and was certified in otolaryngology in 1989.
Dr. Wiatrak’s specialties include management of airway lesions, laryngotracheal reconstruction, head and neck masses, vascular malformations, pediatric sinus, and chronic ear diseases. Outside of his work, Dr. Wiatrak plays the keyboards in two bands and is the father to four children.
Dr. Audie Woolly: Medical Director of Cochlear Implant Program, Clinical Associate Professor
Dr. Audie Woolley received his medical degree from the University of Texas San Antonio. He completed his internship at Washington University in St. Louis, then served his residency at Barnes Hospital in Missouri. He completed a fellowship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and received his otolaryngology certification in 1995.
Dr. Woolley is the medical director of the Cochlear Implant Program at Children’s of Alabama. His specialties include cochlear implantation, hearing impairment, head and neck tumors, laryngotracheal reconstruction, management of airway lesions, management of chronic sinusitis, and treatment of children with Down’s syndrome and craniofacial disorders. In addition to his work at Pediatric ENT, Dr. Woolley is a budding banjo player and father to four children.
Dr. J. Scott Hill: Clinical Associate Professor
Dr. J. Scott Hill received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Michigan, and served a fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and was certified in otolaryngology in 1997.
Dr. Hill’s specialties include congenital ear anomalies, pediatric otology, laryngology reconstruction, and management of airway lesions. Dr. Hill is a father and his sons are all American wrestling champions.
Dr. Brian Kulbersh: Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Brian Kulbersh received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. His internship and residency were completed at the University of Alabama Birmingham, and he completed a fellowship at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He has a board certification in otolaryngology.
Dr. Kulbersh is the director of the Vascular Malformations Treatment Group at Children’s of Alabama. His specialties include management of complex vascular anomalies, hemangiomas, head and neck masses, airway lesions, laryngotracheal reconstruction, and pediatric sinus and chronic ear diseases. Dr. Kulbersh was recently selected as a 40 Under 40 recipient for the University of Georgia, which is an award given to the 40 most successful graduates of the university under 40 years of age. In addition to taking care of children at Pediatric ENT, Dr. Kulbersh is a parent.
Dr. Nicholas Smith: Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Nicholas J. Smith received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where he also completed his internship and residency. He then completed a fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He was certified in otolaryngology in 2011.
Dr. Smith’s specialties include management of airway lesions, airway reconstruction, voice and swallowing disorders, sinonasal conditions, and health outcomes research. In addition, Dr. Smith is the head of Pediatric ENT’s Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship Program and is a parent.
