Crest Medical is currently hiring for the position of Service Technician. Experience with DME is preferred but not required. This is a full time position with possible overtime and alternating on call hours. The service technician is responsible for delivering medical equipment (walkers, commodes, wheelchairs, oxygen,etc) to patients within the home and hospital settings. CMS/Medicare's suspension of the failed Competitive Bidding Program for DME is looked on as great news by our case managers and discharge planning partners in our hospitals and nursing facilities. CMS/Medicare has finally admitted that their competitive acquisition idea has resulted in wide spread access problems for our Medicare beneficiaries needing medical equipment for daily living needs in the comfort of their own homes. Yes, Medicare has suspended that program for about two years, however, they failed to increase the rates they reimburse to providers. The rates were driven down to unsustainable amounts and that is the reason behind the failure of Competitive Bidding. Many DME providers are now choosing to not accept these abysmal rates going forward. This will do little or nothing to improve access to medical equipment needed by our senior citizens.
Congress needs to step in and push CMS/Medicare to increase the rates paid to providers for medical equipment until they come up with a better plan in two years.

I will be joining 5 other members of a delegation of home medical equipment suppliers from Alabama headed to Washington, DC this coming week. We, along with delegates from 38 other states, will continue to try and educate our senators and house representatives on the value of the home medical equipment industry and how tax dollars are SAVED by properly funding coverage for patients recuperating in their own homes. CMS/Medicare is systematically destroying our industry by continued reimbursement cuts that undermine any degree of service needed and expected by our Medicare beneficiaries. These reimbursement cuts do not save money but simply re-direct it to more expensive services such as inpatient hospital care, emergency rooms and nursing homes. Many of these services can be provided in the comfort of a persons home rather than in a facility.
Please help us to WAKE UP CONGRESS!! Call your 2 senators and your house representative Monday.
