📈 U.S. News & World Report has named the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the 2026 Best Colleges rankings, strengthening its position as one of the leading universities in the state. UAB climbed four spots to No. 132 out of 434 institutions in the Best National Universities category — placing it, once again, in the top third of ranked schools across the country.

Dr. Bertha Hidalgo, associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology and associate dean for access and engagement has been named President of the American College of Epidemiology (ACE). In this national leadership role, Dr. Hidalgo will guide ACE’s efforts to advance the science and practice of epidemiology, foster training and professional development and promote the application of epidemiologic research to improve population health. This appointment reflects both her longstanding contributions to cardiovascular and women’s health research and her commitment to strengthening the field of epidemiology through mentorship, collaboration and public engagement. Emma Sartin, PhD, and researchers from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia published a study in American Journal of Public Health that found no single technology is effective in preventing all scenarios that lead to pediatric vehicular heatstroke (PVH). Their findings suggest the best prevention strategy requires a combination of interventions. 🎓 New program alert! The School of Public Health now offers a Graduate Certificate in Maternal and Child Health Policy and Leadership designed to equip students with skills in leadership and research design to drive advancements in maternal and child health policies and services.
