Huge Congratulations to Dr. George Howard!

We’re so proud to celebrate George Howard, DrPH, as the recipient of the 2025–2026 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Award — the highest honor given by UAB - The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s academic health center for excellence in research, education, and public service.

Dr. Howard’s groundbreaking work in biostatistics & stroke epidemiology, including leading the REGARDS study — a landmark research effort that’s transformed how we understand racial and geographic disparities in stroke — has had a profound impact on public health.

With 600+ publications, an h-index of 132, and tens of thousands of citations, his influence reaches far beyond the classroom and lab. We’re inspired by his dedication to science, equity, and community.

Congratulations to SOPH student Isabella Clements!

Isabella has been named to the 2026 Class of Capitol Scholars by the University of Alabama System—an incredible honor recognizing outstanding leadership and public service. She is currently pursuing a BS in Public Health and her MPH in Health Behavior as part of the Accelerated Bachelor’s-to-Master’s (ABM) program at UAB.

We can’t wait to see the impact she will make through her public health work and service. Congratulations, Isabella!
