At the UAB School of Public Health, finding your people can be just as important as finding your path.

In this feature, Anna Grace Deason, a public health student, reflects on how community, mentorship, and getting involved helped her discover her purpose and make the most of her UAB experience. We’re proud to be part of a campus that supports students both inside and outside the classroom.

Congratulations, Anna Grace, and best wishes as you take your next steps as a Blazer alum!

We’re proud to celebrate UAB students selected for the Barry Goldwater Scholarship—the nation’s most prestigious undergraduate award in math and science.

Among them are two exceptional public health scholars making an impact at the intersection of research and practice:

Rishab Samant, a Cancer Biology major and MPH student in Public Health, is advancing research in Dr. Jason Warram’s lab and plans to pursue an MD/PhD. His work focuses on theranostics, combining therapy and diagnostics, to improve precision, image-guided cancer surgery.

Neha Singaravelan, also pursuing Cancer Biology and an MPH in Public Health, conducts research in Dr. Trygve Tollefsbol’s lab. She plans to pursue an MD/PhD and aims to develop predictive, combinatorial cancer treatments while exploring epigenetic pathways.

This national recognition reflects their talent, dedication, and the strength of undergraduate research and mentorship at UAB.

Congratulations to these outstanding students and their mentors on this well-earned honor!
